Fuck this story and it's portrayal of everyone involved and fuck JMS for writing it.

In all honesty, when this was originally published, the backlash on the official DC Message Boards was pretty damn epic...

I read the criticisms of this issue, and agree with some of them. Still, I like Oracle and thought it was worth posting.

The only reason I even knew this book existed was b/c it was on a few top 10 issues of 2010 lists. (one site had it at #1)

The Elastic Assassin - its a good story wtf are you yapping about?....

Really?

"Oh I want to do everything to make your time special"...and neither of these characters (WW or Zatanna) did a damn thing when Barbara was shot, ever.  Never checked on her, never stopped to see how she was doing, etc...  Yeah, that's really compassionate...that's really being a friend.  (rolls eyes)

Using magic to make sure Barbara gets asked to dance?  You really think a smokin' hot redhead isn't going to get asked out?  Needs help?  Requires pitty?

Who gets comforted?  Not Barbara...it's Zatanna crying on WW's shoulder.  The whole night?  It's all about Zatanna...it's what she wants.

And if they really cared they would have told Barbara and fought tooth and frakin' nail to prevent it.  Guess WW doesn't really care about friends or women...that nonsense about her being chosen as a violent lantern (compassion) was a mistake.  Yup heroes should just give in....can't fight fate and all that.

Rubbish.

That would tell me all about the taste level of those sites.  This issue wouldn't be in the 10 ten of 2010 even if I was only considering the DC titles I read in 2010.

that sounds like you have some sort of personal issue.....and they are fictional characters....i suppose the poop and stuff, but they don't show it....so to assume they " Never checked on her, never stopped to see how she was doing, etc... " seems like a bit of a stretch..

and you don't think a person like barbara gordaon has social issues?...she spent her nights on rooftaops beating up crooks.....not exactly a club going social butterfly....

yes zantana required comforting...did you not read the part of the book that clued you into wtf it was all about?.....did you not read booster gold....it cannot be prevented had they tried (as they plainly stated in the story) thisnge would have been made worse....so they are left to wait for it to happen.....can you imagine that?...carrying that with you?.....knwing and worse knwoing there is nothing you can do?......think about it...

seriously too many of you have these seriously nitpicky problems you blame on "the writers" when i am starting to seee that maybe its not the writers but the wierd outlook you have on these characters.....

in otherwords they aren't the problem...you are...

LOL@ Barbara not being a club going social butterfly.  Her first appearance in the DCU was attending a costume party.  Sure she wasn't a vapid, paris-hilton type, but she's done just fine in social settings.

LOL@ booster gold.  Did I read it?  Yes.  Did Zatanna and WW read it? Nope.  They didn't, so they have no basis -- none that some events in the DCU were set in stone and could not be prevented or altered (pre-reboot, of course).  Zatanna only knew it was a dream, a vision...and that in the past (and then she never finishes the thought).  They don't try and stop it, they don't know if this is the one time they could (because who's more powerful in the DCU than WW?  Who has a direct connection to the gods, other than WW?)  Boy it's a good thing none of the villians WW and Zatanna have faced have told them that "they couldn't be stopped" because if that happened, Z and WW would have turned tail and gave up.

And as you said, they let it happen.  They never tried to warn Barbara, and never gave a rat's @ss after it happened.  I guess you think that's heroic and that's the way WW and Z have always acted.

Look, I get that you like the story.  You think it's great.  Super.  I hope you bought a dozen copies and gave them to your friends and got them autographed and stuff.  Heck, If I bought the story, I'd mail it to you on my dime.  But as Mumbly Joe noted, there have been criticisms from day one about this story, so it's not like anything I'm bring up is new or comprehensive.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that I think all comics are poorly written.  I can't stand Y-the last man.
There are lots of comics that I enjoy, as I've mentioned in the past.

I don't like this one, as I've said.

Hell, I liked it.

As someone said earlier, I assume many off panel meetings and conversations happened over the year. Not every dinner between Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Flash were made in to a comic, but we know it was a weekly ritual.

As people with connections to magic and the gods, particularly the greek gods, Zatannna and Wonder Woman have a unique perspective on the inevitability of fate. If it were someone like Batman that found out, then yes, he would not have accepted it and would will himself through time to stop it.

Paw pointed out a huge plot hole.  It's a legit plot hole too.  But it's still a sweet story.  The truth of the matter is, (and has been discussed in the thread for the new issue), there's really no reason Batgirl/Barbara should have remained paralized anyway!  Not in a world populated by so many superpowered, reality altering characters.  But she did, because it made for an interesting character and interesting stories.

Maybe Zatanna's powers don't work for healing?  They didn't know when the event was going to happen, so that explains them not stoping it.  Sure they could have warned her, but the writer couldn't allow that because we already know the even happened!  Basically, if you want to have a story like this, there has to be some plotholes.  And I think the payoff was worth it.

Zatanna's powers are so poorly defined I honestly have no idea what their limitations are.

And keep in mind her entire powerset can be nullified with one piece of duct tape, or a good punch to the solar plexus. If I were her enemy I would cut her tongue out first thing.
