It was an awesome surprise to get to roll with Ishii tonight! He did rounds with different people. I did one 5 min grappling round with him and one light round wearing MMA gloves pretending to be a Possible Opponent. That made my night going with someone like that. Mokoto Takimoto, Gokor, Karo, Manny, Sokoujou are the other better Judo guys I have gone against before.
I also got to roll with a 5-1 Pro that I often train with which is always good.
I got to roll for a pretty long time with a Rickson Gracie Black Belt which was cool.
Also got to watch Ronda roll with Gokor and Manny. She is a very good athlete, acrobatic, got a neat arm control thing I like, floats very well/good movement on top, and big quads. I'd like to see her fight Taite, then Kaufman, then Cyborg!
Just had an exceptional training night, getting to go with Ishii and a Rickson Black belt was pretty cool, and different feel than those brought up as MMA fighters etc.
How's things in the cold Noway? I am not dealing w it this xmas...might come in April instead.
From a technique stand point I will point out that when I go with a higher level Judo guy like Ishi or Gokor.....when I agree to play Greco/Judo....Ie when I lock up in position I can sometimes be taken down. However, I have been playing with going loosey goosey systema style and when you don't agree to lock up, when you give no Kazushi I have faired better.......which is interesting. If more strikers did this, especially loose punching strikers like Diaz and Maldonando they may do better against high level grapplers in the future. I was very tempted in one lock up with Ishii to do a leg scissors takedown while he was setting up Uchi Mata with his overhook, but decided against it as he may compete soon and he might take offence thinking it dangerous since was taken out of the Kodokan in 1913 I believe. I did get Uchi Mata'd to my guard once.
Saw Ronda hit a beautiful Ouchi Gari on the guy that runs MMA Interviews.
I thought so but I didn't want to let cat out of bag if not
Lol you funny Tru, we should talk
It is all very confusing....you see on my American Birth Certificate and Passport they changed Fedor to Theodore, the American version for me. As you see, Fedor and I are ok, but Alek's does not recongnize me as half-brother as there is no proof. I use Oleg Emelianenko as my Russian name. Sorry it is confusing.
As you can see Fedor and I have almost indentical body shape and weight, I am merely almost 1" shorter at 5'11" 232.
I only did light sparring with Iishi where he was faking punches, since I haven't seen him really spar as of late I can't really tell. I would say he still has very good potential, but there is a lot to learn in MMA. As far as the clinch takedown game he is a Gold Medal Champ.
After I did a few things well, I tried to show him the simplest and safest Entry into the clinch from long to far.
It would be interesting to see how he could do if he cuts down to LHW IMO. We were pretty same in size and strength
I would say he was strong in the clinch, and maybe 5% stronger than me, able to push me to the wall, but I use more sensitivity/spinning out, more loose approach nowadays since my cardio is always questionable when up to two yrs ago it was always great be4 ill
Which are the best for self-defense and MMA? Best-Osoto Gari, 2nd Best, Ouchi Gari. 3rd best Uchi Mata. 4th Best Ta O Toshi (I drive guy into ropes and on rebound do a TieOToshi) or when guy is throwing knee from clinches with timing is thing of beauty (RIP Evan Tanner who was first I saw do this). I do not like turning my back for most hip/shoulder/head and arm type throws that often
