This quiz is one I've had fun with sharing with friends for years now. It's hopelessly out of date (pre-9/11), but it shouldn't be too hard to fast forward the one antiquated question. Instead of "Do you believe we should patrol Iraq's no-fly zone?" just change it in your mind to "Did you agree with going to war with Iraq?" or something like that. It'll have the desired effect. Here's the column explaining the quiz. Anyway, here are my results. I'm curious about how everyone does: #1 Paleo-libertarian #2 Paleoconservative #3 Libertarian #4 Left-libertarian #5 Conservative #6 Neoconservative #7 Centrist #8 Radical #9 Third Way #10 Liberal

My bad. PL's thread on this topic can be found here. BTW I saw that politicalcompass.org survery years ago as well. It has to be hands-down the dumbest piece of rubbish that any political pseudo-scientist has ever vomitted out into cyberspace. I think a Down's syndrome teenager addicted to crack could make a better political survey.

paleo-libertarian/paleo-conservative Id say that quiz was accurate for me and the links they provided for each were spot on. Im a regular reader of mises.org (paleo-libertarian) and Chronicles (paleo-conservative). I do however also read The Onion from time to time like those centrists.

The test generalizes too much. For example, the ideology "Paleo-conservatism" is ranked #2 in my list. Paleo's oppose foreign intervention (as do I), but they want the South to "rise again," which I don't support. Not because I hate the South (I do not), but because I don't care. Yet Paleo-conservatism is ranked #2 in my list.

Dory, so you support secession and want the South to rise again?

Logic Rules, paleocon doesn't necessarily mean actual neo-seccessionism (in fact it's paleoLIBERTARIANS that talk about this more than paleoCONS). It usually just means sympathy for the South's POV in the WBTS. Honestly, you're close enough to paleocon even if you don't care about the WBtS at all and just agree on present-day policy stuff. Most paleoCONS tend to invoke Robert Taft much more than any old South figure.

I agree with Buddhadev that supporting secession is not a necessary requirement for being a paleo-conservative. However, I think most paleo-conservatives support the right of secession. That said, I actively support secession as I believe the current nation-state leviathan is corrupt beyond repair. So yes, Id like the South to secede. For that matter, I also support the active secession movements in Vermont and Hawaii, or outside of the U.S. in places like Quebec, Flanders, and Ulster, should they so desire, and in places like Kurdistan where they clearly do desire secession.
