source: ufc.com

Brazilian lightweight Thiago Tavares (14-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has suffered a knee injury in training and has been forced to withdraw from "UFC 103: Franklin vs. Belfort."

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the injury from sources close to the contest, and though the extent of the injury was not immediately known, it appears as though Tavares will require surgery.

Tavares had been scheduled to meet Jim Miller (14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at UFC 103, which takes place Sept. 19 at American Airlines Center in Dallas and airs live on pay-per-view.

Jim Miller vs. Thiago Tavares and Paul Daley vs. Brian Foster set for UFC 103

A lightweight bout between Jim Miller (14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and Thiago Tavares (14-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and a welterweight fight between UFC newcomers Paul Daley (21-8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Brian Foster (10-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) are set for UFC 103.

Both contests will take place on the un-aired preliminary card of the event, which features a main event of Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort at a catch-weight of 195 pounds.

UFC 103 takes place Sept. 19 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas and airs on pay-per-view.

Griffin vs. Franca back on UFC 103 main card, Escudero vs. Miller demoted to prelims

A day after the Ultimate Fighting Championship bumped a Tyson Griffin (13-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) vs. Hermes Franca (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) bout to the preliminary card, the organization has returned the lightweight matchup to the UFC 103 main card.

On the official fight card on UFC.com, Griffin vs. Franca has been promoted, and a lightweight contest between "The Ultimate Fighter 8" winner Efrain Escudero (11-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and veteran Cole Miller (15-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has been demoted to the prelims.

Hermes Franca vs. Tyson Griffin Demoted To UFC 103 Prelim Card

While Tyson Griffin has won 5 of his last 6 bouts, as well as a total of 5 Fight of the Night awards in 8 UFC fights, his fight against Hermes Franca at UFC 103 has officially been moved to the preliminary card.

Injury forces Matt Wiman out of UFC 103, Rob Emerson expected to face Rafael dos Anjos

UFC lightweight Matt Wiman (10-5 MMA, 4-3 UFC) will have to put on hold his attempt to break back into the win column; a knee injury has forced the 25-year-old out of a proposed contest at UFC 103.

Wiman was expected to face Rafael dos Anjos (11-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) at the Sept. 19 event, but MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned "The Ultimate Fighter 5" contestant has bowed out of the event.

While the news was certainly a disappointment to Wiman, the change of plans may be a blessing for recently injured Rob Emerson (9-7 MMA, 2-1 UFC).

MMAjunkie.com reported earlier today that Emerson was forced out of a scheduled bout at UFC 101, but sources close to the event have indicated Wiman's fellow "The Ultimate Fighter 5" cast member will now fill in at UFC 103.

The main card will feature six bouts, as there are no title bouts on the show. Here is the updated card for UFC 103, which takes place on September 19th from the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

A light heavyweight bout between Eliot Marshall and Jason Brilz is all set for UFC 103.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com was recently able to obtain the confirmation of the bout from sources close to the fight.

Marshall has a career record of 7-1 and has gone 2-0 officially with the UFC. He submitted Jules Bruchez at the TUF 8 Finale in December of 2008 before besting TUF 8 finalist Vinicius Magalhaes by decision at UFC 97.

Brilz has put together a career record of 17-1 and has gone undefeated in his last thirteen bouts. He is also 2-0 with the UFC, stopping Brad Morris with punches in September of 2008 before taking home the unanimous decision victory over Tim Boetsch at UFC 96.

Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson II headlines UFC 103, "Cro Cop" vs. Junior Dos Santos set

In desperate need of a main event for the organization's first event in Dallas, the Ultimate Fighting Championship today announced a UFC 103 headliner that we've seen once before: Rich Franklin (25-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC) vs. Dan Henderson (25-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC).

The two fighters first met at UFC 93 in January with Henderson picking up a somewhat controversial split-decision win.

UFC 103 marks the UFC's first trip to Texas since UFC 69 in Houston more than two years ago.

Winner of Swick v Kampmann gets GSP

It has been widely rumored and Joe Rogan mentioned it during the UFC 100 broadcast, but the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Wednesday made it official, the fight between Mike Swick and Martin Kampmann will determine the next challenger to UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.

"Wherever we go, fans know UFC delivers great fights,” UFC president Dana White said. "Mike Swick vs. Martin Kampmann could be fight of the night at UFC 103 because the winner takes on Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title.”

After suffering an injury to his groin at UFC 100, St. Pierre will be taking some time off to heal up, but has at least narrowed his next opponent down to the winner of the bout on Sept. 19 in Dallas.

"I want to face the best guy," the champ commented after his victory over Thiago Alves. "Right now, I'm in really bad pain. I'm going to take a step back and take a look at it and we'll talk about it, and in a couple of weeks we'll see."

He should have plenty of time to rehab his injury and get prepared for his next challenge. Swick vs. Kampmann is still two months away and no date has been revealed for St. Pierre's return bout against the winner.

Junior i find to be an under appreciated prospect.  We haven't seen his ground work, but he is a purple belt under Nog so he has to be at least capable.  He has fast and dangerous which will always make him a threat.  Winning this fight could very slyly put him as the next contender under the winner of Shane/Cain.
