Leites released by the UFC

Thales Leites, who eight months ago fought for the UFC middleweight title, was given his walking papers in a meeting Wednesday afternoon with the UFC, FanHouse confirmed with a source close to Leites.

Leites (14-3) has been competing exclusively for the UFC since The Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale in November 2006. He lost his UFC debut, but would win his next five to earn a shot against champion Anderson Silva. However, both faced heavy criticism after engaging in an uneventful performance . Silva last Saturday at UFC 101 redeemed himself and showed why he's arguably the most dangerous striker in MMA today with his dominant win over Forrest Griffin, but Leites on the other hand, dropped a split decision to Alessio Sakara for a second straight fight to be decided on the scorecards.

No, Leites needs to not be fighting scared like he was against Silva.  LOL at this pro-wrestling bullshit.

I have a pretty good feeling whoever lost in that fight was getting the boot. It just happened to be Leites who didn't get the nod with the judges so he gets walking papers from the UFC.

A sports-entertainment model certainly has historical prescedents for success, I can't argue with you there.

That's pro-wrestling for ya.  You gotta build that "heat" to get the "marks" excited!  Leites needs to refine his "gimmick", maybe work on his "promos".

OK, I thought I was trippin'I was like, "That fight was 8 months ago? What have I done in the last 8 months???"

Pretty much. I want to be entertained. While there may be a way to beat fighters by boring them to death, I ain't paying 45 bux to see it.

You don't pull what Leites pulled in the Silva fight, then compe back with a lackluster SD loss and expect to stay.  It would have been a gift had he did.  The guy needs to refocus, win some fights convincingly, then maybe he'll get another shot. I'm not surprised by this and actually am fine with it.

Leites put on one of the most shameful performances I've ever seen against Silva and he had a target on his back because of it. Sakara hasn't had a performance like that yet, even though he's been smashed a few times. Leites brought it upon himself.
