Paul Taylor v Jon Hathaway at UFC 105

source: fightersonlymag

Paul Taylor is set to meet fellow Brit Jon Hathaway in a welterweight match at UFC 105, Fighters Only has learned.

A UK source tells us that the two are being lined up for the card and that both have verbally agreed to the bout.

Aside from establishing the domestic welterweight pecking order, the fight also serves as something of a clash of styles, with Taylor excelling at kickboxing and Hathaway bringing strong clinch and wrestling skills.

There are quite a few Brits in the WW division of the UFC now, so I suppose this was inevitable, but I just don't like the match-up. I'm pulling for Taylor because he's one of my favourite fighters ever, but I think this match-up will be relatively competitive. I still think Taylor will take it, just because he absolutely destroyed his last opponent who was a pretty good grappler (should have been a stoppage, Paul finished him at like 4:58 of round 3).

Whattt. Don't like that matchmaking. Perhaps they're afraid of having too many Brits on a roll in the top half of the WW division. As for the fight, it's certainly interesting but perhaps unlikely to be exciting. I expect Hathaway to smother Taylor, ground him and excercise positional control the majority of the fight, albeit probably without finishing him. I guess I would prefer Hathaway to win as I believe he is the better long term prospect, obviously. I will look forward to it but I'm a little disappointed.

I thought Taylor got robbed in the Lytle fight. Paul Taylor is one of my favorite fighters, I'll always root for him.

hathaway is a natural clinch-fighter, taylor is a badass kickboxer ("k1 level striking skills...")interesting stylistically.

I think Lytle tried to take Taylor down at one point and couldn't, iirc. Lytle has horrid takedowns (because it's not really his thing to take guys down), but I suppose that's a start.I read that Hathaway has no formal wrestling background, just his MMA grappling training. If he out-wrestled Ricky Story, he must've gotten pretty good. Not sure who I favour in that one.

Hathaway is sick on the ground. He isnt ready of Taylor yet imo. Taylor is very underated.
