Dana White: John McCarthy should be in it for love not money

source: mma connected

“It’s not that I disike John McCarthy, I’m not anti John McCarthy at all. I think John McCarthy mde a decision in his career, he decided to not ref anymore. He wanted to move on. If you’re in the ref business to try and get rich … people aren’t in it to be rich, they’re in it because they’re passionate about the sport. I’ve been very lucky to meet some amazing people in my career like Mitch Halpern, the best boxing ref in the sport and he died 10 years ago and being around this guy this guy was passionate about the sport he loved the sport and it was never about the money it was about being a professional referee. And that’s what it’s about.”

“Anyone looking to get rich off refereeing is in the wrong business and he should probably stay in the broadcast business. But I dunno you tell me, do you make money in the broadcast business? I think you should be involved in things because you’re passionate about it and it’s what you love to do. And if you’re that good and that passionate then all the other stuff just falls into place.”

Dear Dumb Shit,Please take a course on English comprehension. Dana White is not a REF. The comments he made about John McCarthy getting rich were about questioning his desire to be rich based off of the fact he made a career decision to be a REF, which historically shows is not one to choose if you're interested in money first and foremost. Moreover, Dana got involved in the UFC business when he had a hell of a lot less than he does now. He got involved at the lowest point of this sport, and through his hard work, 100 hour work weeks, etc helped shape this sport into what it is today. He got into this business because of his passion for it, and by the nature of the work he did in this business, he SHOULD be expecting to get paid.

HB & I have lobbed a few water balloons at each other a few times, but he is 100% correct here. when i listened to that interview (the rest of it was very very good) i couldn't believe it. he still acts like a little kid with the cool swingset that his parents bought for him sometimes. straight up attacked BJMs charracter because he couldn't think of anything relevant to say in response to the question-MM

"If you’re a federal judge, a judge to try and get rich … people aren’t in it to be rich, they’re in it because they’re passionate about the law." Maybe this is Dana's point?
