Velasquez claims he would beat Fedor

Cain Velasquez is schedule to fight Ben Rothwell at UFC 104. However, his mind appears to be on a future opponent. During an interview with MMAFanHouse, Velasquez was asked who he thought would win if he was to be matched-up against Fedor Emelianenko:

“Definitely me. I’m a proud Mexican fighter. Anybody who steps in that ring with me, it’s like f*** them, I’m gonna beat them. The guy’s gonna have to kill me. I think he’s an awesome fighter, he’s the best. It’s not like the movies or TV with the biggest and most muscular guy going out there and he’s the baddest guy, it’s not always like that”.

If Velasquez beats Rothwell, his next challenge might come in the form of Brock Lesnar or Shane Carwin. The California native was originally scheduled to fight Carwin in a #1 contender’s bout before the idea was scrapped in August.

The match-up with Fedor will thereby have to wait. Considering both fighters are in separate promotions, Velasquez will have to settle for a possible UFC title shot.
