Jake Shields:"Cung Le would rather vacate title than fight me"

by Jesse Holland | source: MMAMania.com

Cung Le doesn’t want to fight me. That’s why he vacated the title only to  come back a month later and fight again. You’ll have to ask Cung why he won’t fight me.”

Newly crowned Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields takes at shot at Cung Le during the “Fedor vs. Rogers” post fight press conference on Nov. 7 from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Shields bested Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a five round unanimous decision victory to lay claim to the belt that Le vacated just last month. Le contends that he was not expecting to be available to to fight so soon, but his current acting gig was delayed when the movie he was filiming got pushed back a year, thus freeing him up for a return to Strikeforce against Scott Smith on Dec. 19. Is Le avoiding the ground game of Shields? Or is this just a case of inconvenient timing? Thoughts?

Totally agree. Cung Le isnt exactly a world beater. When he beats someone top ten we can talk. I would rather see him fight either of the fighters listed above. So if Sheilds is such a dominating fighter he should be calling out Dan Henderson to come to Strikeforce and fight him at 185! If he really wanted to fight the best he would have tried to get that hype train rolling. Hendo on CBS would probably do similar numbers to the Fedor fight. On another note, I would actually love to see Sheilds fight Sakuraba. At least we would get to see another Sak fight without him having to take a ton of damage!

Good move by Cung to give up the belt.At his age and current situation in Hollywood, it's an ideal situation for him to come in and fight 1 or 2 marquee fights a year over the remainder of his fight life.

I Fought them both, "Cung Le knocks Jake out in this one".  I told you guys Cung would beat Frank Shamrock nobody listened. Look what happened. I fought Cung twice I know what his power & kicks feel like. Jake would not be able to take him down & would look terrible trying to stand with him. If it ever happens. You guys remember what I said.  I was wondering the same thing.  First response was going to be "with his rasslin!" but Cung has some decent rasslin too.  I'd like to see if Jake could get him to the ground without eating some big strikes.  If he does, it's over in under a minute.  If he doesn't, he get's ko'd by Cung's superior striking.

Well Jake would rather fight Cung than top competition, so don't act like Le is running. Let's face it, Le is not top competition and his only top win is against an aged Frank Shamrock. Jake beats Cung but it doesn't do much for his stock other than promote his name. Shields should be calling out Zaromskis or even Jacare

this fight wouldn't be a LNP. Jake submits him quickly, within two rounds.
