Strikeforce on CBS again in April

by Loretta Hunt | source:

CBS has formally agreed to air its second Strikeforce event in April, has learned from an executive within the major network.

A specific date and venue has not been decided, though numerous locations are currently being scouted from coast to coast, according to the executive.

Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson are expected to appear on the card, said the CBS source. Henderson, a top-five ranked middleweight, left the UFC to sign a four-fight 16-month deal with Strikeforce on Dec. 5. has learned that Henderson is being strongly considered to challenge middleweight champion Jake Shields in his promotional debut in April.

Both fighters’ camps told on Tuesday that they’re open to the possibility of the matchup, though no official talks have begun with the promotion.

I haven't seen anything out of Mousasi, and certainly none of his wins, that would make me think he could beat Dan.  He's not faced near that level of competition and has struggled with guys far under Hendo's skill level.  Dan would be favored and would likely KO/TKO him.  But that's the test Gegard needs to see where he really stands at LHW/MW. Outside probably Fedor, Dan's likely to beat most of the Strikeforce guys.  Dan's the same size as Gegard with a proven chin, great takedown defense, plus heavy hands (Sokoudjou landed plenty).  Not a good fight for Mousasi and Dan would destroy Jake so not even worth making that one IMO.  Jake's path to victory in most fights is his takedown/wrestling, and Dan is simply better than him there, let alone the size difference. As much as I hate not seeing Dan fighter other top MW's in the UFC, he's almost guaranteed success and multiple belts in Strikeforce to round out his career.

^ I disagree about Hendo/Mousasi. Imo Mousasi probably beats Hendo and that would make a Hendo/Shields match ups much less desirable. If STrikeforce does Hendo/Shields first than they can hype Mousasi/Hendo even more so.

That's exactly the stuff they need to do to maximize viewers, but not sure it will work out that way.  I think Hendo/Mousasi is the best bet as there's just not another good LHW out there.  Shields is just out of luck unfortunately unless they have him fight at 170 and bring over a DREAM guy (Marius?).

It's all relative.  For Strikeforce, the CBS cards are by far the best one's they're putting together and head and shoulders above the Showtime ones.  They're in their own spot in the market so no use comparing to other orgs.  But looking at their roster and ~10 shows/year, it sucks when their best shows only occur twice in that timeframe.  I'd at least like to see that number double. Their Showtime shows are ok and will of course watch them like I do most MMA/K-1/etc., but there's a definite difference in quality of fighters/fights.  I will say I'm not keeping a Showtime sub just for those cards though, if that helps emphasize my point.  I pick it up once a year for Dexter but those cards aren't worth keeping it the rest of the year.

I heard Robbie Lawler hasn'tdecided to fight Luke Zachrich this Saturday Yet. Apparently Trevor Prangley pulled out last minute and they offered Robbie Luke and he Hasnt taken the fight with Luke. I think it would be a good fight, but Robbie would get beat by Luke,

5+ months between good shows (i.e. shows on CBS) sucks.  But it's free so oh well.
