Randy Couture: 'Winner could be next in line for title shot'

source: cagereport.net

Despite being victorious at UFC 105 Couture admits the he was not satisfied with his performance and will be looking to obtain a more decisive result this time out as well as putting on an exciting fight for the fans.

"I wasn't happy with performance, my game plan going in was to grind him down and eventually get top position and pound him out, but he he did a good job in defending the takedown. I know some people didn't think it was too exciting but I know the hardcore fans of the sport enjoy a good strategic battle. I think going up against Mark [Coleman] is a much better fight, stylistically for me to use my wrestling and put on an entertaining fight for the fans"

Couture also revealed the implications of the bout with the winner possibly securing a place as the number one contender next in line for a title shot.

"From what I've been told the winner of this fight could be next in line for the title, though that's not something that is guaranteed so I really need to come in at my best and make a case for myself."

I like that idea!couture/coleman winner vs. tito/chuck winnerThen have: shogun/machida winner vs. rampage/rashad winner Winners of both brackets face off, kinda like an 8-man tourney!

I don't think either of them deserve a title shot. How about the winner getting a matchup against Franklin and then the winner of that fighting for a shot at the title?

Holy fuck, I can't believe people consider either of these guys top 5 or expect them to be remotely close to a title shot after this.LOL@either of this guys having more relevance at LHW then Rashad or Thiago right now, let alone a slew of other fighters. The winner of this fight should get the winner of Tito/Chack, the loser should get the loser of Tito/Chack and all 4 should retire afterwards...LOL.

Maybe, but in the end, it's about business. Fans know Randy, and will pay to see him fight. If Rampage wasn't such a wildcard, I'd say he's definitely next in (if he beats Rashad).

I see it:Champ: Machida1. Shogun2. Rashad3. Rampage4. Coleman5. Couture6. NogueiraShogun does get the next shot in May! They are saying couture/coleman gets the next shot after that! And give em a break, Former Champs & Legends shouldn't have have to work QUITE as hard as newcomers or new to ufc'ers to get a shot, ecspecially when they are already 45 yrs old!How can anyone at least not want to see this fight? Havent any of you newbs complaining watched the old UFC's? 2 of the original pioneer's going at it on the big stage! Nostalgia Fever Man! There not crippled for cryin out loud, could be a good fight!TTT for the LEGENDS Fight!

I would have to agree, Randy's cardio is great but I don't think it will have that much of an impact in a 3 round fight which Mark has shown he can deal with fairly easily. I don't want this to be like Henderson/Bisping where a title shot is only guaranteed if the more marketable fighter wins.
