Rich Franklin: It's hard to leave this sport a millionaire

source: richfranklin.com

"The UFC treats me great. They treat me personally very well. You could interview 100 different fighters and get 100 different opinions, but I'm happy with the organization. But if I could change one thing I'd change the paydays. There are guys who play in the NFL and play three or five years and they're millionaires. This sport, unless you're #1 or #2 it's very difficult to fight for three or five years and be that #5 guy and still leave the sport as a millionaire. That's what makes it difficult. So if there's one thing I could change it would be that."
-Rich Franklin, 2006

Athletes are not paid 5-10% of revenue generated.  Most professionals are not paid 5-10% of revenue generated.  You are paid about 25-35% of revenue you generate, in a law firm.  Would you do the same job for 5% and make posts that those disgruntled should just go happily along their way?

Lol @ throwing firefighters in there and saying how dangerous mma is. How many mma fighters died last year? How many firefighters died in the line of duty? At least pick professions less dangerous than fighting.

You guys realize the reason that team oriented athletes make so much money, is because that's what they are able to leverage right?A guy who hits a baseball 3.5 times out of ten isn't getting a 50 million dollar contract because he can hit the baseball well, it's because the team next door will pay him 48 million. If you can drive up PPV sales by 400,000 everytime you fight, you will be able to leverage a good payday. If not? Find a job with flexible hours and lots of down time.
