-According to matchmaker Monte Cox, a fight between Roxanne Modafferi and Tara LaRosa is close to being finalized for the card. They need the OK from Strikeforce.

-Tim Sylvia’s opening comments were, “I’m stoked that this fight is in Boston. This guy is a world champion. It’s not something I’m going to take lightly. I don’t want him getting hold of me.”

-Mariusz Pudzianowski said, “For the first time I’m going to test myself against someone who is serious. Tim is a big man, so I’ll have lots of targets to bash up. I promise it’s going to be a rough tough fight.”

-Pudzianowski on fighting two weeks prior in Poland, “I’m crazy I like challenges.”

Former Bruin Byers fights for a cause Lyndon Byers made a career out of fighting people on the ice. The 46-year-old former Bruins enforcer will make his way to the cage come May when he drops the MMA gloves with Eric “Butterbean” Esch in a charity exhibition bout. As the fight under the Moosin banner takes place at the DCU Center, it’s only fitting that donations will benefit the family of Mark Bisnette, a Worcester Police officer killed in a January automobile accident. “I think it’s a great opportunity to do something for charity and to get my nose dirty,” said Byers, a UFC fan. “This is a great opportunity to help his family down the road. It’ll help make their lives a little bit easier and that’s what it’s all about.” A second-round pick for the Bruins in 1982, Byers put up his best numbers in the 1987-88 NHL season (10 goals, 14 assists). But it was the time spent in the penalty box that gained the right winger a local following. He amassed 1,081 penalty minutes in 10 NHL seasons. Of course fighting another professional hockey player and taking on Esch, the 43-year-old, 400-pound veteran of nearly 90 professional boxing matches, seven kick-boxing bouts and 22 MMA fights is a different story. To prepare for the event, Byers hooked up with boxing legend Micky Ward. (more…)

I'm worried about Pudz fighting 2 weeks before. There's a chance he gets hurt and the fight is off.

Is this fight really going to happen? I am considering buying tickets but it just seems like one of those fights that is going to fall apart at the last minute.

Sylvia prepares for the unknown Prepping for a fight against Mariusz Pudzianowski could be difficult. His only mixed martial arts fight lasted 43 seconds, so Tim Sylvia will have to study video of Pudzianowski’s five World Strongest Man titles, or perhaps his run on Poland’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Sylvia won’t have much to work with leading up to his May 21 Moosin bout with the native Pole in Worcester. The uncertainty makes the fight dangerous. “It’s always dangerous with somebody like that. They’ve got nothing to lose,” Sylvia said. “If he loses, he was supposed to lose. If he wins, then he uses Tim Sylvia as a steppingstone.” Sylvia, 34, is on the comeback trail after leaving the UFC in 2008. He’s 1-2 since, and the former UFC heavyweight champion wants to get his fight career back on track. During their staredown at yesterday’s press conference, Pudzianowski didn’t look Sylvia in the eyes. “I think he’s worried and nervous,” Sylvia said. “I want to go back in the mix, get a couple wins together and get back in the picture.” (more…)
