While German mixed-martial-arts fans were dealt a stern blow with March's order from the Bavarian state office for new media (BLM) banning UFC programming on German airwaves, the world's biggest fight promotion has stepped in to assure that Saturday's UFC 112 event will still be available to all.

German fans will be able to watch "UFC 112: Invincible" for free on UFCLive.com.

The stream will be geo-blocked and offered free only to German fans.

UFC U.K. president Marshall Zelaznik said "We want to ensure that our fans will be able to see the one of the most historic events in UFC history."

I think he's trying to say that some politicians will use this in their battle to keep MMA banned in Germany.

They already broadcast the damn thing online.  Nothing has changed except that they are letting Germans watch for free.

Under the new EU Audiovisual media services directive there is no clear distinction between TV and online broadcasts. It also states that there can be measures taken against a broadcaster who tries to circumvent national rules. Seeing as this is a broadcast from outside of EU there wont be much they can do about it, but for sure it will be used as a political weapon against the UFC.

probably not since there is no way to take such a case to the european court, it is not the equivalent to the us supreme court.

LOL! You do realise people have been prosecuted by the music industry allready when using proxys? (Use newsgroups ;) )Anyhow it is not piracy as the UFC is giving it for free. It is possable it is breaking there law though. My concern is I dont want negitave drama by the German goverment. Its the last thing MMA in europe needs right now.
