Minotauro donned bigger gloves and became South American boxing champion, and a bronze medal on the Pan Ams in 2007. Three years later, another MMA name has been calling attention for the sharp exchange of punches.
Junior So Santos, student of Minotauro’s boxing trainer Carlos Dórea, beat all of his UFC opponents, including top strikers as Mirko Cro Cop and Gilbert Yvel. The proud trainer reveals that the heavyweight may appear in the boxing ring in a nearfuture. “The main skill of Cigano is his boxing and he gets better each day. His thought about fighting boxing do exist, is also his wish”, tells Dórea, revealing that the debut was scheduled for the beginning of this year.
“The first step would be the Brazilian championship, after he beat Cro Cop. He was the super heavy holder of the Bahia team, but the UFC scheduled his fight with Gilbert Yvel, so I had to take him off the team”, explains Dórea, confident that the UFC athlete's talent could bring Olympic medals to Brazil. “His evolving is fantastic, he has one of the best boxing techniques of international MMA. If everything goes right, he will compete on this area and, who knows, in the future he can bring a few medals to Brazil… He is phenomenonal."
“He participated of all the team preparation for the Pan Am, Pre-Olympic. He trained yesterday and had an outstanding performance with two two-times Brazilian champions, guys who had traveled around the world. Brazil always lacked heavyweight fighters, and with Dos Santos’s strength and skills, I don’t have a doubt he would represent Brazil very well on the tournaments, and would even bring medals home."
