Belcher vs Cote slam questioned

source: ufc.com

As Patrick Cote drove in on a double leg. Alan Belcher leaned forward, secured and body lock, largely inverted Cote, and drove him into the mat. Cote appeared stunned, and shortly there after tapped out due to a rear naked choke.

Fans were divided on whether the slam violated the Unified Rules prohibition on vertical spikes.

"Also, you may not know this, but Greco-Style slams were LEGAL in some of the boxing rule-sets that predate the Marquis of Queensbury code."I second this, i was reading a really old boxing technique book and it had several slam techniques in it

We don't need any additional rules. The current rules prevent serious injury/fatality. Any further rules will just make the line cloudier. That's not what MMA needs.

Didn't someone die in South America by slamming someone when he was in a guillontine?  Should we ban that too?

Slam was legal because Cote was not slammed at a 12-6 angle.

^Yes, that's the first legit depiction of what would constitute a rule violation. GaGasSoldier correctly assessed the first gif.
