Kimbo considering return to bare-knuckle boxing

It's a throwback to the old days of the sport. On Wednesday morning, I spoke with Bobby "The Celtic Warrior". Gunn. He is a former IBA, WBC-USNBC, WBA-NABA, IBC and NABC Cruiserweight champion. His record stands at 21-4-1, with 18 knockouts. Bobby's a hard-puncher, and a straight-shooter.

An offer has been made that would pit Gunn against YouTube sensation, and UFC fighter, Kimbo Slice, in an old-school, bare-knuckled boxing match.

Before everyone gives a knee-jerk reaction of the brutality involved in bare-knuckled boxing, it should be noted that some pundits believe that it's actually less brutal than gloved boxing since the matches often end in less time, which means that there is less damage done overall.

Here's what Bobby had to say:

LS: Hi, Bobby. How are you?

BG: I'm doing good, Lorne.

LS: Tell me about this possible matchup with Kimbo Slice.

BG: Okay, here's how it would go down, Lorne. It ain't going to be a street fight like you see on YouTube. It would be under the London Prize Fight Rules, or the rules of John L. Sullivan, before the gloves came. When the gloves came, they were the Queensbury Rules. This will be an old-time, proper fight with a referee and judges.

From part 3 of the interview:LS: Have you heard any news back from Kimbo's team?DP: Well, they told me they were going to let me know by Thursday. They like the idea of it. The money seems good that I offered them. I don't want to go into detail on that. They were entertaining one other offer, so if they don't go with that other offer, they might go with this. You know, the money is about comparable but he's going to get a lot more exposure with this one, because who wants to see him in the MMA anymore, really? He's not an MMA fighter.

If they do that, they might as well close up shop. It would completely destroy them overnight, no matter how the fight turned out.

Bareknuckle Boxing is a different kind of boxing/fighting than sport fighting. It'd be interesting to see. I wish it'd be allowed more places but uneducated prick politicians frown upon it.

I don't know Voorhees, Kimbo was horizontal and unable to move. I would say that was a good rogering.

I'd love to see a fight held under London Prize Ring rules.
