Harris steps in for injured Rivera

Jorge Rivera's loss will be Gerald Harris' gain.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that Harris (17-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) has verbally agreed to replace Rivera and now faces Alessio Sakara (15-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) at UFC 118. Bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

Featuring a lightweight title rematch between current champion Frankie Edgar and former title holder B.J. Penn, UFC 118 takes place Aug. 28 at Boston's TD Garden.

Harris fights for the fourth time in 2010. After debuting for the UFC with a "Knockout of the Night" win over John Salter in January, Harris has since earned victories over Mario Miranda and Dave Branch. The slam finish of Branch earlier this month earned Harris the evening's "Knockout of the Night" and was also featured on ESPN's SportsCenter as one of the evening's "top plays."

Harris, who was eliminate as a contestant on "The Ultimate Fighter 7" by eventual show winner Amir Sadollah, now has 10-straight wins overall.

Sucks for Gerald.  No surprise Alessio is now "injured".  That dude bails out of more bouts than anyone else on the UFC roster.  I swear he only has a job due to the Italian mafia.

A change has been made to the upcoming UFC 118 card in Boston as Alessio Sakara has been forced off the show with an injury, and Joe Vedepo has been tapped as a replacement to face Gerald Harris on the Boston show. The other piece of news out of this situation is that the new fight agreed upon between Harris and Vedepo will no longer make the televised portion of the Spike TV preliminary show, as confirmed by sources close to the negotiations.

I'll go out on a limb & say we know what we are gonna get....Another KO from Gerald as he moves on up. I just havent seen anything from Sakara lately to make me think he can stop Gerald. I would say Gerald has a very large advantage on the ground & I dont think Sakara has what it'll take to stop Gerald from putting him on his back.I'll say Gerald either by another big slam KO or by GNP stopage.

This is a terrible fight.  Sakara has the ability to make anyone look like shit.  He does nothing but when he does it's explosive.  I used to be a huge Sakara supporter but you never know what you get with him.

Hells yeah. Another good matchup for Gerald but this time with a name. A win here should push him into midcard fights and TV time.
