Aaron Simpson hospitalized with unknown infection

UFC Middleweight Aaron Simpson had been preparing for a potential bout with Dave Branch at Ultimate Fight Night 22 in Austin, TX. Now, Simpson is recovering from surgery performed late Wednesday night to battle an unknown infection.

Simpson went through a typical sparring session with teammate Ryan Bader on Thursday of last week, but was alarmed on Friday morning when his nose was sore. After a visit to the doctor on Friday, the infection spread to Simpson’s elbow by Saturday. After five days of infection, surgery was performed and Simpson is now recovering in the hospital.

Doctors are currently growing the culture to determine what the infection is, and Simpson describes the situation as “miserable” as he is running a fever of 103 degrees. He will remain in the hospital for 2-3 days, followed by 6 weeks with an IV that runs straight to his heart. The surgery and infection will prevent Simpson from training and thus rules him out of the September Fight Night.

You can't help imagine how many people would have died if they'd experienced similar illnesses 100 years ago that today, are fairly easily controlled by doctors. My wife would have been in deep shit multiple times.
