A middleweight bout between two of the most decorated wrestlers in the UFC is in the works for UFC 123 in Detroit as former NCAA champion Mark Munoz returns to action to face former Arizona State All-American Aaron Simpson.
The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight, and verbal agreements have been made by the competitors for the middleweight match-up.
After dropping down to the middleweight division in 2009, Mark Munoz (8-2) had put together an impressive string of victories including a crushing performance over former "Ultimate Fighter" winner Kendall Grove at UFC 112.
It looked as if Munoz was pushing towards contender status when he ran into Yushin Okami in his last fight. Known for being a tough fight for anyone in the middleweight division, Okami was able to subdue Munoz's wrestling, and get the better of the California fighter and win a decision.
Now looking to get back on track, Munoz will face an old friend and fellow wrestler in Aaron Simpson.
