Belfort vs. Okami will determine no.1 contender

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® organisation returns to Germany on November 13 when UFC 122 emanates from König-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen.

In the high-stakes main event, mixed martial arts legend Vitor ‘the Phenom’ Belfort will face Japanese powerhouse Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami in a three-round contest to determine who will  challenge for the UFC Middleweight Championship in 2011.

UFC 122 is the first UFC event to take place in Germany since the world’s premier combat sports organisation made its mainland Europe debut in Cologne last June.

UFC Managing Director of International Development Marshall Zelaznik said: “We are glad to be coming back to Germany with UFC 122 and to reward our loyal UFC fans in Germany. Both Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami are one win away from a shot at the UFC Middleweight Title and are coming to Germany with a great deal to win and lose. This is a sporting event with tremendous international significance, and we are delighted to have been able to bring this event to Oberhausen.”

I just watched my first MMA event several years ago...I mean days. My comment was intended to represent that no one should have expected either Leites or Maia, to do what they did in the ring. Likewise, with the opposite end of the spectrum, many weren't expecting Sonnen to have done as well as he did. Therefore, to think that Okami would be such a great contender because of past and recent peformances is silly because quite the opposite has been true with fighters against Silva. The great contenders fold under pressure and the subpar contenders have done well.

Okami has a much better chance vs Bisping than Belfort though Bisping is very underatd on here and is improving all the time.I could see Bisping's footwork and work rate out pointing Okami and leaving Okami to only mount some offense perhaps in the 3rd round ala Franklin (though Bisping will be more aggressive than Franklin). Bisping doesnt tire though.Bisping should beat Sexy on cardio alone. If Sexy's hands can sharpen back up to where they were vs Belcher, it will be a better fight. He needs to improve his ground game though. He will likely mount little offense on Bisping at the stage his ground game is at. Sexy does mix his striking and tds up pretty well. It could be more of a factor if his ground game was better so he could pressure even more with the clinch.

Yep. If Okami wins a boring decision and Bisping beats Akiyama, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave the shot to Bisping since he's a bigger name.
