Kampmann: Only thing sore is my knee from Shields' face

source: mmanews.com

After a close split decision loss to Jake Shields at UFC 121, Martin Kampmann talks about how he felt about the loss and who could be in his future:

"I really gave the victory away by trying to finish him with submissions and losing position because of it. It was a stupid mistake on my part and I am very disappointed in myself for such a poor performance."

"There are definitely flaws in the judging criteria but I'm not sure how to fix it. Best way is to not leave it to the judges.

"I don't know yet. Maybe [Dan] Hardy or [Matt] Serra. They are both coming out of losses as well, but really it could be anybody. I don't want to wait too long. "

"I had no injuries after the fight, because Shields didn't really do much but hug me. My only sore spot is my knee from hitting him in the head."

Shields will get smashed by GSP , and then we can all talk about that. Martin can get a rematch after he loses ;-)

I'm more of a bjj guy, not a Kampmann fan. Everyone trains those escapes, but I can't remember when anyone else has pulled them off in a mma fight. It was awesome.

Way to pry something that kampmann did well out of that fight, i'm not a shields nuthugger i think he was woeful, but you're a kampmann nuthugger who's clutching at straws. I thought they both were completely shite in that fight

laughable, kampmann got outstruck in the first and did nothing to redeem himself the rest of the fight. Have a look at the stats if you dont believe the first part. If Jake shields can outstrike you then you most definately don't deserve a title shot. If you loose to someone whos having clear difficulties like shields was you most definately don't deserve a title shot. If your too afraid to strike with someone who could take you down you can't fight GSP, you don't deserve a title. I cannot think of any reason why you would say he did.

I couldn't disagree more. I thought the fight was close and I would have scored it 29-28 for martin. Just my opinion though and it was clear way before the fight who they wanted to win, Not implying anything there oh wait yes yes I am. and Shields was signed with the guarantee of a title shot .. for fuck sakes he struggled with Kampman and would have nothing for gsp. after that fight Kampman is more deserving of a title shot.

Some real Shields nuthuggers here. That was a lackluster fight. The most impressive thing that went on were Kampmann's escapes from the bottom, which were amazing. You really see those at this level of competition very often.

My whole point is that when the first criteria is barely achieved (which it was) they rely on the rest of the criteria, which are all shields, so shields would've won a pride fight too.

I agree they both did fucking terrible, but you think Shields did more to finish the fight because he got dominant positions? He got dominant positions then did fuck all until Kampmann bucked him off, Kampmann did barely anything to finish the fight, but Shields did NOTHING to finish the fight. Kampmann would have won under Pride rules.
