DFW not sure if Rampage vs. Machida winner will get a title shot

With UFC 122 in the books, the focus now turns to Saturday's UFC 123 headliner between former champions Lyoto Machida and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

And though the light-heavyweight bout may seem a likely No. 1 contender's bout, UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com he's not ready to promise a title shot to the winner just yet.

"I don't know," he told MMAjunkie.com "The fight has to happen first (before I decide)."

I think Rampage vs Machida winner gets Ryan Bader/Jones winner or Thiago Silva/Vera winner.

I would be excited about shogun/machida 3. But I agree that neither Rampage or Machida should get a titleshot based on this fight.

what sense does this make? does anyone really wanna see shogun/machida 3, page vs evans 2, or machida vs evans 2? why not do jones vs badar winner fights machida vs page winner, and either do winner of franklin vs forrest for title shot or have winner fight coutour for title shot....just to mix it up alittle

i think its a good thing. As we've seen from recent fights when there is a guaranteed title shot, the fighters just try to eek out a boring decision

You're forgetting that Rampage is coming off a #1 contender loss and Lyoto a first round knockout championship loss. To give either a title shot after this fight is to prevent the deserving contenders from getting their shot, namely Forrest Griffin and Rich Franklin, both fresh off of big victories. Neither Bader nor Jones have any victories over the elite/big name LHWs.GSP vs Kos 1 was a contender match because Kos was on a winning streak. Liddell vs Jardine wasn't since neither of them were coming off of victories. GSP and Liddell were former champions. Randy vs Big Nog was not a contender match because they just lost, but Big Nog vs Cain became a contender match since at least one of them just won a fight. Therefore, the winner of Griffin vs Franklin will either become the #1 Contender or will need to get one more victory to become one.

Im a huge Rampage fan but I wouldn't mind seeing the winner of Rampage/Machida fight the winner of Jones/Bader. If you look at the timeline it should work out perfect.

After Machida wins, he should get the shot. He would beat everyone else in the division, so why bother waiting or putting that fight off.

With Shogun out, it's gonna be a long wait anyway.
