Leben wants to be TUF coach, not judged

by Franklin McNeil | source: .espn.go.com

In October, Chris Leben was arrested and charged with DUI. He is scheduled to appear in a Hawaiian courtroom sometime after his UFC 125 bout with Brian Stann.

Leben has been fighting to clear his name and restore his image. "It's something I've had to work on personally -- not being quick to judge," Leben told ESPN.com. "Unless you've walked in that person's shoes, you don't know why they are in the position they're in or the choices they've made.

"Unless you know the full picture, you can't have a just answer. You're better off not judging at all."

If he is successful against Stann and the public withholds judgment of him, Leben believes his chances of being named a coach on TUF will improve.

"Coaching is my passion. I'm a better coach than I am a fighter. I'm a colorful character and we know that makes for ratings.

"My goal is to progress and be a better human being. And [given] my role as a coach, I would love to be on the show and show that."

He's smart to want it but i don't want to see it. he's not as "colorful" as he once was. he's mature now and full of positive affirmations. So... nice guy but less interesting than before. he no longer says "smashin' cats." (or doors). No more "I'll git u Josh! kyoo kyoo!" No more crying. And it's doubtful he'll be held ever so gently by Nate Quarry. zzzz. I want the Jerry Springer show, TUF Edition. Season 5 style. So Chael / Silva please (either Silva). Extra hot sauce. Thank you drive thru.

I guess it fails on people that he has his own school in Hawaii, which does very well, thereby which he also receives a lot of praise and kudos for his teaching and coaching abilities. Who gives a fuck about actual facts and people's endorsements, we will judge how good of a coach he is by his TV time 5 years ago and with legal issues that are run rampant with all pro athletes. You think Rampage is a good role model? Chuck Liddell? Other than the fact they were champions, both of those gentleman were far from prize winning role models and actually had far less experience coaching young fighters.

I almost got banned back when Laben was on TUF because I kept calling him "Labia" on account of him always flapping his lips.Unless he has grown the fuck up A LOT in the last few years then I honestly can't see him being a top level coach.I'll give the guy his props - From the chin down he's got everything it takes to go where ever his dreams might take him. From the chin up he's a loose cannon.

Nice to see you again, fiercedragon. Whenever Chris Leben is named on a thread title I know I'm going to find you in it calling him a douche. I guess if you can be an obsessive douche roller about Chris, I can be an obsessive douche roller about finding you and calling you out for being one as well.

leben's a douche and doesn't deserve to be on tv for any reason than being brought down on an episode of 'cops'...

I've read several blogs from people who trained with him and they are unanimous in saying he's a good coach, especially with younger students.

If none of you have seen these videos, it puts Leben in a different light. He's a good coach. Its about 30 minutes worth of video, 25 if you take out the cheesy metal intros.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRohri086cUhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EtbIh7-N9shttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPFlmNgAcOwhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB7NYozrGFAhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiSkeItFUEA

I actually think Leben would make a great coach. And I mean like in the straight sense of I think he would teach a lot to a lot of fighters.
