Rampage Jackson vs. Thiago Silva targeted for UFC 130

by Steven Marrocco | source: mmajunkie.com

Fresh off a dominating win over Brandon Vera at UFC 125, light heavyweight Thiago Silva (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) next will fight former champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (31-8 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in a UFC 130 bout expected to have a major impact on the title picture.

Sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) verbal agreements are in place for the fight.

UFC 130 takes place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Jackson vs. Silva likely will be part of the pay-per-view main card, possibly in a headlining or co-headlining spot.

I got Rampage.  I think he has more power in his hands and better boxing. While Thiago has shown decent takedowns I don't think they're good enough for Jackson's TDD. Thiago also seems much more emotional than Rampage's last few opponents, therefore might be drawn into a slugfest if he gets tagged or can't take Rampage down. I've only seen Silva hurt by Machida, but I think Jackson has more power than Machida, at least in his hands. HOPEFULLY this will be a great back and forth, well-rounded MMA fight, and has great potential to be. Don't want to see Rampage or Thiago held down or run from anymore. That would ruin this great matchup.

Rampage needs to turn it up and he certainly get a test in Thiago Silva. Rampage needs to make a statement his highlight reel could use an update, going to be a great fight no matter what imo.

I kind of figured it would take Rampage 2 or 3 fights to get back to form and i was hoping they would serve up a bad Mother f-cker to Silva after the Vera fight. mission accomplished Silva will be facing (what i think) will be the best Rampage in a longtime after facing off against Rashad and Machida it has fine tuned him for this matchup. Rampage has a extremely under rated ground game and allthough he might not be better on the ground he is just good enough to minimize the damage which means Silva will not be slappin his next opponent around. on the feet i truly feel Rampage will dominate. Silva is not as "ellusive" as Machida is as Rampage put it. in fact Silva just stands there and if he would have stood with Vera there was a 50/50 chance he was the one going down. my guess is Jackson TKO upper cut or knee to the jaw bone while shootin for a takedown stops him.
