Werdum: This time I'll take Overeem's other arm

by Ben Fowlkes | source: mmafighting.com

June 26, 2010 was the day Werdum submitted MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko in the first round, handing the Russian his only true loss to date in MMA competition. Since locking on the submission early in the fight worked so well against Emelianenko, he's now focused on doing the same thing to Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem in the upcoming Strikeforce heavyweight tournament,

"No problem. I'm confident," said Werdum, who defeated Overeem with a kimura in the opening round of the Pride Open Weight Grand Prix in 2006. "The last time I got the left, this time the right arm."

"Fedor show nothing in the face. Everybody show the expression in the face, but Fedor don't show nothing. Nothing. ...Just cold face. He has a cold face."

"I know I got it, but this is Fedor."

"It's not possible  to watch tequila today," Werdum joked, hinting at the lingering after-effects of his victory party in the hotel bar. "I don't like tequila no more."

Although werdum is dangerous on the ground hes never been too great at forcing the fight in that direction. Fedor got uncharacteristically caught up in the moment and fell for werdum playing possum, even then werdum only just managed to catch fedor by the skin of his teeth. If reem gets the chance to throw the shots fedor did at werdum, he wont be playing possum, he'll be rocked for real.

its really bummed me out to see how inflated Werdum's ego has become since beating Fedor... Seriously, Overeem is a completely different animal now. I am not saying he is untouchable, but to speak so confidently is just foolish. When Werdum flops, reem wont be following him to the ground. he is going to back up, wait for it to be stood up, and maul him standing up.

Werdum is certainly confident and I would expect him to be. He needs to stay positive and play to his strengths. However, I don't see him doing the same thing to Overeem. Werdum got dominated the last time until about 14 min. into the fight as someone pointed out earlier. The different is the new, improved, and much larger Overheem is not someone you can afford to let dominate you. If the fight starts out the same way this time Werdum is done.

This. The old Overeem was 13kilos(if I remember correctly) lighter than Werdum in the fight btw.
