Cesar Gracie: 'Greg Jackson is not one of the greatest coaches'

by Ariel Helwani | source: The MMA Hour

Cesar Gracie recently joined the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, and had this to say about Greg Jackson:

"He's more of a coordinator where he puts things in perspective. And he's great at what he does. Training's at this time, let's go run the mountain or something. Let's go train with this guy. He's more of a motivational speaker possibly, but as a true sense of the word 'coach,' he's not on the same page as great coaches of the world. He's not. I've got nothing against Greg Jackson in particular. There's a lot of guys like that. I'm sure he's a great guy and everything. But the guys from [American Top Team] in Florida, it's like, you don't have Dan Lambert doing that. He doesn't get in the limelight and he's great, he does everything. He sets it all up, and he's done an incredible job. You never see him pretending he did something he didn't do. The great coaches are in the background."

4-0 UNDER COACH GREG BEGGING TO DIFFER

well if he considers Jackson's a recruiting center then he needs to shut his mouth even further as he def does not know how they operate. Heck to get on the team everybody has to vote on it, you can't just be a pro fighter and join up whenever. Plus people come to him, not the other way around.

Cesar thinks a coach is someone who trains and teaches his fighters from the start and doesn't care for places like Jackson's that he considers recruiting centers.

great interview, really gives a look into the inner workings of that team. LOL @ ANYBODY saying Greg is not a coach in truest sense of the word after that.

Great interview crooklyn. The interview fired me up a little bit and got me thinking of more examples besides the one I used on the other page. It was about two weeks before cowboy fought horodecki and we were training at the ranch (cowboy and leonard's house) and greg drove up (30+min drive) just to help cowboy work on some half guard sweeps, when he started it made the rest of us pay attention which turned into a great lesson on sweeps. After I asked a question about a sweep (what if the guy does this instead of this question)which he answered and showed a move too, he paused and said something like "I love this stuff." Coach Jackson is a technician, coach, coordinator, father figure, adviser and much more all in one. What ppl may seem to forgot or realize is he only went into coaching mma after years of TEACHING his system of martial arts when his students wanted to get into fighting.

I like CG and his camp, but he really needs to check his mouth on this shit. Greg knows his stuff, there is a reason why people come to HIM and not vice versa.
