Overeem: Cain Velasquez is the number one heavyweight

source: bjpenn.com

”I agree that Cain Velasquez holds the number one position; he had a very good year and beat the champion in very impressive fashion. Now Cain is sidelined for the rest of the year and having the Strikeforce GP tournament in 2011 there is enough room to take that number one spot. The winner of the GP should be number one in the rankings because I still believe Strikeforce has the best heavyweight division in the world.”

you can only hope that fedor gets beat by Silva cause if he makes it to the next round and has to fight overeem you know M-1 will fuck everything up. i mean niether fedor or overeem has made it to the next round and they are already trying to find a way out

I like Overeem, but honestly, even if he wins the whole Prix, i don't think that would make Reem #1 at all. A title ONLY means as much as who you beat to get it. He beat Beunatello for the SF belt, Duffee for the Dream title... and probably Werdum,Fedor, and Barnett for the Prix. Since JDS knocked Werdum's head off, Barnett hasn't done anything lately other than fail steroid test, and Fedor hasn't won a meaningfil fight in years, I think Reem beating those guys still would put him at like 3rd. Behind Cain, and JDS or Lesnar.

So Alistair could have just been agreeing with the question that specifically asked, "as far as the public is concerned... Cain Velasquez holds the rightful number 1 ranked spot in your division."Not saying that Alistair WASN'T also agreeing that he too thinks Cain is #1 or SHOULD be ranked #1 - but that wasn't actually the question he was specifically answering. (And regardless of the framing of that question, Alistair certainly does seem to think very highly of Cain, just as everyone else seems to as well, including Fedor.)

This is true.  If Reem keeps his title, he will have proven himself as a HW and will add to his already significant marketing potential.  He's big, muscular, speaks english and is very fan friendly.

I meant Fedor. They asked him what he thought of Cain recently, not about his ranking , but Fedor said he was a amazing fighter and had followed his career.
