Overeem still unpaid for winning K-1 Grand Prix

by Jon Anik | source: espn.com

Matt (Seattle)
When you talked with Overeem did it seem like he wished to fight in the UFC soon?

Jon Anik (1:48 PM)
No. He likes the freedom of being able to compete in Japan, K-1, etc. But that said, he told me he still hasn't been paid for winning the K-1 Grand Prix last year. If that trend continues, Overeem's tune could change.

Anyone know if he got paid for all that promo work? Or would it be part of his overall purse?

I really hope that Overeem and any other fighter who may be owed money by K-1 gets paid. I know what it is like to get screwed out of money and it sucks.

Say what you will about the UFC, but at least fighters never have to worry about Dana paying them in full - and that's not even including the undisclosed locker room bonuses. I was also surprised to hear that a lot of sponsors rip fighters off as well.....if I was fighting, no way I'd put a sponsor's name on my shorts until I have the cash in my bank account.
