Diego Sanchez to Martin Kampmann: Rematch? Win a fight first

by Brendhan Conlan | source: fiveouncesofpain.com

Martin Kampmann vs. Diego Sanchez was an instant classic. Sanchez was announced the winner by controversial unanimous decision, and fans immediately clamored for a rematch.  Now the two fighters are showing their intentions, via twitter:

Diego Sanchez:
“You really want a direct rematch? I trained no boxing! Zero! I just wrestled my ass off.

"I underestimated your takedown defense and had to resort to my street-fighting loco skills and almost dropped you; I seen your legs. I was not in my best shape.”

“Plus you just lost two in a row. You need to get a W (and) then we can talk rematch. Your punches had snap to cut but no power.”

Martin Kampmann:
“Almost dropped me??? Nah, as far as I remember you where the only one that got dropped. Wise up."

Diego Sanchez:
“Watch it again. I got hit off balance while jumping in for a hook! (It) in no way dazed me not at all. If I can’t get a better fight (where) a win would move me up the ladder, I would love to fight you again!”

Martin Kampmann:
“Let’s make it happen then."

Diego Sanchez:
“If we fight again it will be an even better fight. If it happens it happens you’re always a fun fight.”

Diego needs to exchange some of that infinite heart of his for a bit of common sense... Taking huge amounts of damage is NOT what fighting is about anymore than losing tons of money is what business is about. I fear for his well-being/health if he continues to take pride in taking huge damage. I like to watch a fight not a masacre.

Daniel Craver - yeah I know what the official result was. Difference is I actually watched the fight and didn't just look up the results. Anyone who has eyes that watched that fight (except the judges present) knows that Kampman out struck Sanchez, knocked him to the mat, stuffed all but one take down which he go right back up from and won that fight.~~~ This. Kampmann has been robbed more times than anyone, and Sanchez's new monicker should be "The Christmas Kid" after his last win. I really like Diego, usually, but when his ego impairs general brain function I wonder if he shouldn't be doing silent cartwheels for awhile.

THIS Definitely true. Shields was gassed, and instead of Martin using his striking to possibly end it, he tried to grapple with Shields. Horrible decision that cost him the fight. As for the the Diego fight, I didn't see it, but i hear people say that Kampmann should have won the decision.

True that Diego didn't show up in his best shape either. That much was obvious as soon as you saw him.

I know Kampmann is the better fighter, but I'd still rather watch Diego fight any day... their fights against Paulo Thiago really sum it up... Kampmann vs Thiago, nice but slightly tedious win ... Sanchez vs Thiago, carnival of insanity that leaves the entire arena shocked and awed
