Hamill plans to 'break will' of Rampage

by Matt Erickson | source: mmafighting.com

Hamill (10-2, 9-2 UFC) has been asking for a Top 10 opponent, and UFC president Dana White said after his last win that he'd get one. After a series of changes, Hamill gets arguably the most important fight of his career at UFC 130 against former light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

And thanks to five straight wins, Hamill, the only deaf fighter in the UFC, is riding high on confidence going into the May 28 fight.

"I know I'm going to break his will – I know I'm going to beat Rampage," Hamill told host Ariel Helwani on a recent edition of "The MMA Hour." "I've been training real hard and my conditioning and my skills and technique, striking and kicking are a lot better."

"The first time I heard, I was really excited because I wanted to face him," Hamill said. "I think it's my moment and time to shine, so I'm really excited to fight Rampage."

Big mistake for Hamill to talk even a little shit. His best chance was Rampage taking him lightly and not training hard.

I'm down on Rampage lately, but Hamill's style is tailor made to make Rampage look good. Plus Rampage put a great gameplan together and stuck to it against Machida. Hamill gets suckered into a brawl too easily, which is perfect for Rampage's Joe Frazier routine of rolling with the punches and waiting for that big hook opening. Can't See Hamill getting KO'd, but I think he's in for a bit of a beating on the feet.Hamill's only change is that Rampage forgot you are allowed to wrestle and kick in the UFC.

Ah, true. I actually thought that was Hamill fight was reminiscent of Couture's beating on Tito.  Matt Hamill is a phenomenal fighter who got screwed by the Bisping fight, screwed by Joe Silva (i.e. the Franklin fight; as much as I love Rich, as happy as I was that Rich won - Hamill was psyched out by the fight), and he lost to Jones (the best fighter in MMA) by injury. I don't think Matt can beat Jones, but I think he has been top 10 (ability-wise) for awhile and he'll prove he's top 3 with this fight; it's his time to prove who he is.

Add Rashad to the Machida and Forrest list too.

Actually, he beat Tito more soundly than Machida and Forrest did (I'm not doing any MMAMath); he absolutely handled Tito. He will beat Rampage and I don't want to hear any excuses when Hamill takes 'Page out.

Good luck finding a motivated Rampage.

Hamill had his hands full with Tito, who is very much over the hill. Rampage is just a better fighter than Matt, plain and simple.
