by Ariel Helwani | source: mmafighting.com

MMA Fighting spoke to Paul Daley about Saturday night's title fight against Nick Diaz at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley, how close he was to not accepting the fight, why he thinks Scott Coker "sold out," whether he will make weight and why he stopped talking trash about Diaz.

I maintain Coker is a good guy. He was forced to sell. You can tell he loves promoting martial arts and as soon as he can get away from Zuffa, he will. He'll put in a couple years, pocket some nice money and then fuckin run. I hope he didn't sign a non compete. What he's doing with Strikeforce being owned by Zuffa, that's not promoting. He's not going to be content with that. He had no choice. He wasn't the majority shareholder and was forced to do something he didn't want to do.

I think Daley must share the same manager as Chris Brown.

People watch the video please! I was all ready to fire off and then I saw the whole thing and his statement about Coker considering it's Semtex was really not that bad. Honestly the only outrageous comment he made is that he can get press and make money outside the UFC by himself.

I have nothing but great respect for Paul Daley's skills in the cage! But! that being said, the same reason for the respect, is why I am so disgusted by his attitude and remarks. He is slowly losing what remaining personal respect he has by not biting his tongue, and do his talking in the cage! There is no question that Daley has the tools and drive to be an MMA champion, but on the opposite side of that coin, that same attitude can put him in a career ending dark hole in the MMA world. First I truly believe that Daley has nothing to be pissed about! He punched an opponent far after the bell, during a hugely watched fight, on the biggest promotion in MMA. Daley was totally in the wrong and should have realized that a long time ago! Instead he blames everybody else for his problems outside the cage, but never points the finger at himself. If Daley wants to continue fighting in a top level basis, with the top level fighters in the world, he is going to have to just honestly, "Shut the Fuck Up, and fight"! Never mind Dana White, Scott Coker, or anyone else that sets him off, and put all that effort and focus on his training and his wrestling/ground game! I do not want to see a talented fighter waste it on nonsense, that is my fundamental concern with this Daley situation.I feel very strongly about this because I really do believe Paul Daley is top ten in the world, and has so much raw talent to be wasted on all the silliness surrounding him. He has a huge fight with one of the top 3-5 welterweights in the world, and he should be thinking of nothing else but Nick Diaz! I levy some of this blame on his trainers and those closest to him for not drilling this concept into his brain and get him back on a path to a well thought out MMA career. I like many others love to watch Daley fight, but as of now I think many MMA fans have already tuned the Daley saga off, and are hoping he loses Saturday night, so he can fade away into the MMA sunset! This is his last chance to be taken seriously as a fighter, and maybe if not too late, start getting back into the number one promotion's good graces! I wish nothing but luck to Paul Daley!<br /> Jaesinn, Boston, MA
