Anderson Silva to defend middleweight title against Okami in Brazil?

According to Rodrigo ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira, former UFC heavyweight champion and his training partner, Silva will fight Yushin Okami, the last opponent to defeat him (by DQ at Rumble on the Rock 8, in 2006), trying to set a new record of nine straight title defenses in the UFC.

MMAJunkie added further detail to the scenario:

Before officials consider booking Silva vs. Okami, they are going to wait to see the outcome of UFC 129's main event, between Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields.

A source close to the negotiations said officials haven't completely cooled on the idea of Silva fighting welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who meets Jake Shields later this month at UFC 129.

Okami is considered a likely backup plan if St-Pierre losses or if officials and the fighters' camps decide Silva vs. St-Pierre doesn't make sense at the current time.

if this fight does actually happen silva via devastating k.o, however very surprised if gsp doesnt replace yushin.....with every fight that silva and gsp have the ufc risks there big payday on the superfight..if gsp gets past shields i suspect dana will jump all over it..

I think this makes Okami the first Asian fighter to get a title shot in the UFC. He should feel proud.

Okami is virtually guaranteed not to win a decision. he has to finish, or he's gonna lose.this is UFC's best bet at ensuring Okami gets his shot, but does not win.

I don't think Okami has much of a chance, the dude hasn't fought in forever. So he's going to fight Silva which is hard enough but he's going to do it in his backyard too? Should be an interesting matchup and they will sell it as Silva vs the last guy to beat him...

Okami's a solid fighter, but I don't think he's got much of a chance, not with five rounds.

Fuck yeah, pumped for this fight. I'd also say it's a pretty safe assumption that Okamis wrestling is significantly better than it was last time they met.
