Jacare: Lack of fights in Strikeforce 'sucks'

source: mmamania.com

Strikeforce Middleweight champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza has defended his title just once (vs. Robbie Lawler) since earning the title in August 2010. And once is not enough.

"I get upset. I am an MMA professional, a guy who’s always ready to fight, I keep waiting approximately six months to fight. It sucks, I don’t like that. They’re thinking of July [for another fight], but for me that’s a long time. I’m going to relax in training right now, I’m going to travel. Maybe I’ll fight in July again. I hope my new boss puts me to work more often."

+1 I hate when the legal system prevents good things from happening.  Jacare wants to fight, the UFC should bring him on.  Coker should just step aside, be a team player, and let a lion go fight other lions.  Make it happen Dana, remember, business as usual!

Perhaps with Chou out, the Strikeforce matchmaking will improve and fighters will actually get fights. It's hard to even think of a possible opponent for Jacare though. They might need to be creative here.Perhaps with Diaz almost certainly being GSP's next opponent, they'll do the reverse for Jacare and send a UFC contender to fight him.Bisping probably won't happen because I think he's waiting for Sonnen. But Sonnen might be out a while.Well the Showtime numbers aren't number of viewers either. That's households. The average PPV will have a higher # of viewers:buy ratio than a Showtime show does, because PPVs have more group buys and bars, etc. But a Showtime "viewer" isn't a single viewer either, ratings numbers are always in households.Regardless, the UFC is clearly higher profile and is seen by more people by far. There might be some Strikeforce events that get more viewers than some UFC PPVs, but those would be the less successful UFC PPVs only.

I don't like how Strikeforce is wasting all these great fighters' career time by not giving them any fights.

yeah but I doubt the Ufc cares about those promotions. I'd be very surprised if they don't wait to merge the two brands until they can either turn the showtime deal to a Ufc/Showtime deal, they open up their own network or find a way to put on way more shows. I doubt they want to merge the two brands and lose tons of talent. They have the market cornered right now and losing a lot of these guys would help other orgs but hurt them.Plus they have the deal with Showtime. They can't just make the contract disappear.

I'd like to see the UFC send one of their Middleweights over to contend for Jacare's title. 5 round fight on Showtime. Bisping or Maia would probably make the most sense, although honestly I think Bisping would have a much better chance.
