Drysdale: I will be UFC champion within five years

by Derek Bolender | source: mmajunkie.com

Transitioning from high-level grappling competitor to high-level mixed martial artist was made to look easy by Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and former UFC No. 1 contender Demian Maia. It's not. Ask somebody like Marcelo Garcia.

The jury is still out on what level of success 29-year-old former multiple-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Robert Drysdale will eventually attain after making his metamorphosis, which, at 2-0, remains in the early stages.

He fights UFC veteran Mike Nickels (9-4) on June 18 at Armageddon Fighting Championship 6, which takes place at Bear Mountain Arena in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

When asked what he envisions for himself five years from now he made it pretty clear how serious he really is with his new endeavor.

"I am thinking the UFC light-heavyweight champion," he said. "That's the goal for everyone in my weight class ... There are a lot of guys ahead of me. I understand that. I'm not in a huge rush. I think I'm doing things the right way."

Drysdale may do well the first couple of years then he will get ran out of that division when Roger Gracie makes his way to the UFC. At that point Drysdale will go into a deep depression since Roger will once again be his achilles heel.

the LHW belt is being passed around because there's so many talented monsters in that division and so many interesting crazy stylistic match-ups, not because it's easier to become champ at 205. it's being passed around among elite dudes that are hard to fuck with like Bones, Shogun, Machida, Rampage, Rashad, Thiago Silva. then you got guys like Forrest, Randy, Lil Nog, Bader, Franklin, Hamill, Luiz Cane. it's a tough division for new guys to work their way up in, I mean shit, Brandon Vera was cut. I think the passing of the belt is deceiving.

Not saying he can or cannot become champion however there is something that always bothers me when people put that he is a 6X BJJ world champion. Yes he did win 6 world championships however he has not won 6 world championships as a black belt. Most top level black belts list only the world championships that they won as a black belt.

not that you need my back in this at all, but anyone being called a cunt is only done so when they have actually won the arguement. when i get called a cunt instead of a bitch i actually smile...it's a compliment...the person calling me that just has nothing intelligent left to say to solidify their arguement....
