Cesar Gracie: Diaz will counter GSP with true BJJ

by Sergio Non | source: usatoday.com

After weeks of speculation, UFC President Dana White made it official via Twitter.
U wanted it! U GOT IT!!! GSP vs DIAZ Oct 29th UFC 137 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Officials for Zuffa, started looking into the possibility of St. Pierre vs. Diaz soon after the acquisition of Strikeforce" class="Newslink">Strikeforce in March. The St. Pierre bout falls under a new eight-fight deal that Diaz signed with Zuffa, Gracie said.

That contract allows Diaz to fight for both of Zuffa's mixed martial arts promotions. But it precludes professional boxing, which Diaz originally planned to pursue in the fall.

"They were very fair in their dealings with us," Diaz's trainer Cesar Gracie said. "It was kind of a complex contract because of the boxing, so he obviously had to be compensated for not boxing and taking this fight instead."

"Nick is going to counter his wrestling with true black-belt jiu-jitsu, Gracie jiu-jitsu," said Gracie.

GSP will finish Diaz ... for one reason ... Nick isnt afraid to engage him. People bitch and cry about GSP being boring when in reality its his opponents that make the fight boring. They are all scared and for good reason. He is the CHAMP and its the challengers role to take that belt. Dont bitch that all Georges did was stick and move when the supposed #1 contender was satisfied with standing there like a human punching bag. When Nick comes at Georges hard and fast you will see how the heat gets turned up and GSP puts him down.

Yeah, Nick is going to kill the guy with the spotless record. He hasn't finished anyone with ok (not NCAA caliber) wrestling but he'll kill another BJJ blackbelt, wrestling genius (who never wrestled competiviely) whose record is nearly spotless. I love Diaz and wouldn't mind seeing him win but this whole anti-GSP movement is so fucking annoying and comes from skinny punks who go to BJJ 3 days a week and think they are tough guys. Just a fucking joke.

Diaz has endless cardio and can take a nice beating but still come back. BJ is a front runner and quits when the going gets tough. BJ is more explosive though and can end fights within the first minute. Not something I see Diaz doing. He will wear on you incrementally. This will be an interesting fight!

As a GSP fan, his fighting style has become so shitty to watch that I'm hoping for a Diaz ko to force him into becoming more creative with his offense. He's a nice guy but boring to watch.

Yea.... I'm going to say training with Roger is better than training with Cesar.

Jake held his own striking with Georges, Diaz' will dominate GSP striking. The BJJ is much the same and I see Georges having the far better wrestling. I've often wondered why the Diaz brothers don't have better wrestling considering the amount of time they spend training with Jake and Gilbert. Georges will no doubt just take down, hug, take down hug. If he fights Diaz he will get fucked up and he knows it.
