Jones: I'll be fighting Rampage next

by Steven Marrocco | source: mmajunkie.com

"I'll be fighting Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson next," UFC Lightheavyweight Jon Jones told MMAjunkie.com on Thursday. "I'm not allowed to discuss the date because I didn't sign a contract, but yeah, it will be very soon."

The NSAC suspended Jackson this week following his lopsided decision win over Matt Hamill at UFC 130. The former champ had to get his left hand X-rayed and could be suspended until Nov. 25 if an injury was found. He can, however, gain clearance before that from an orthopedic doctor.

It appears that the severity of the injury, which UFC president Dana White said could give Lyoto Machida or Rashad Evans the next title shot, has been downgraded.

Jones, who has had hand problems of his own, said Thursday that his hand is "totally fine" and will be good to go for a fight with Jackson.

When would he like to return to the cage?

"September," he said.

If the fight takes place in September, it would in all likelihood be at one of the two events scheduled for that month: UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou on Sept. 17  or UFC 135 on Sept. 24. Given that Jones is at the highest tier of UFC fighters, receiving a share of PPV profits, it appears that UFC 135 in Denver is most likely.

I like the fight between Rampage and Jones better than Rashad v Jones, but at the same time I don't get how Rampage catapaulted Rashad with a not so impressive win over a non top 10 in Hammil.  I think Jones will beat Rampage easily, but Rampage is a very dangerous opponent and could knock anyone out.

Since it's confirmed, I'd pick Jones to emerge victorious. Jones has been on a roll now and I wasn't impressed with Jackson's last fight. I expected him to finish Hammill. I think the high altitude will work in Bone's favor, as he trains in Albuquerque, similar elevation to Denver. Hope it's a good fight though.

Terrible fight. Reminder me of how the ufc protected Chuck Lidell for so long after and even before he got the title. Seein his manager was Dana, it makes sense. Chuck was a one dimensional nothing. Every elite fighter he fought beat him. Of the time he was champ, page was his most elite fighter. Randy was close, just old. Other than that, he fought nobodys or he fought somebodies from japan who were obviously on roids and since they were tested here, they weren't half as good as the were anywhere else. It made him look awesome. But we know he wasn't shit.
