Gracie: This is the end of Diaz in SF, hopefully

source: mmafighting.com

Ariel Helwani: So is (Nick Diaz's) Strikeforce" class="Newslink">Strikeforce belt on the line?

Cesar GracieI don't know. I truly don't. They haven't told me if his belt is on the line. I don't think so. This is not like that because if his belt was on the line that would make GSP the Strikeforce champion (if he wins). And then what? He's going to fight someone from Strikeforce? I don't think that's happening. But then again, refer to Dana on that one because I truly don't know.

AH: How many fights is the new contract for?

CG: I can tell you it's a multi-fight, multi-year contract. I can't tell you how many fights.*

AH: So it sounds like he is a UFC fighter now.

CG: Right, but the contract does give the option to fight in Strikeforce. So what that opens up is the potential for him to also fight in Strikeforce.

AH: Do you think this marks the end of Nick's run in Strikeforce?

CG: Hopefully. If he's back in Strikeforce, I would imagine that's because he lost his next fight.

*Reports say it is an eight-fight contract

agreed. it would give more fans a chance to be exposed to up and comers without having to watch 6 hours of fights every night (from facebook, spike, ppv etc) casual fans arent gunna be watching all that, so if there could be free shows where they could see some other fighters, that could only benefit.the problem would be selling tickets and such. a tourny format could work and then the winners get promoted to the UFC. just spit ballin, but id be excited for a minor league.

+1, and I'd hope they are smart enough to already be heading in that direction.

hopefully nick works really hard on takedown defense and stuffs gsp's double leg. if nick can do that then he has a really good chance of a tko against gsp. nick has one of the most unorthodox styles in mma, and all gsp has to offer is jabs, overhands, and spinning back kicks.

I find it hard to believe that Showtime would allow this to happen.    The fight is only happening because Showtime ok'ed it.   They want Nick back.

they need to get rid of challengers, and just make SF the ufc minor leagues and get rid of TUFput on SF "thurdsay night fights" weekly and build the league that way.Ill watch, plus it would kill off other comp like bellatorgood idea?

People bitch and moan about how Zuffa is gonna kill strikeforce, but these are the same people that are ecstatic when they announced GSP vs Diaz...Will they kill stikeforce? yes. Will that give us some awesome match-ups? HELL YES! SO are we really losing anything? Personally I can't wait to see Melendez VS Pettis for the UFC LW title mid/late 2012 :)
