Cyborg Santos: Money has prevented Strikeforce contract extension

“I’m pretty sad not to be fighting and I’m trying to renegotiate my contract for a year, but Strkeforce doesn’t want to [make] a deal,” Cyborg told Tatame. “They want to keep paying me what they paid before, but now I’m the event’s champion and I’ve never been defeated in Strikeforce. I just wanted to be recognized.”

And by ‘recognized’, she means paid.

EPGScott -
The truth is the best fighter does not make the most money, just like the best actor or actress won't make the most. The fighter that gets paid the most is the one which will sell the most PPV's or get the most people to watch it on cable.

Well phrased actually. there is a reason philip seymour hoffman gets paid a fraction of what jessica alba makes.

Thing is: if you are, in reality worth X amount of money for a company then you can be paid X amount of money from that company. It is about bargaining of course but you can't get significantly more than you are worth unlesss somebody is rather stupid (remember LaRosa's contract that would make her more than 500,000 in 16 months? As far as I remember they were unable to even get her one fight).

On the other hand females were evidently able to carry the burden of headlining in eliteXC and sell tickets, so I think female MMA has not only a future, but a present. But at this point, reasonably pretty appearances may still be necessary, at least on one side of the cage....(the UG messes up for me, hence the odd characters)

Lol.. Not smart huh? U should read more slowly so ur simple biz oriented brain can digest the complexities of the statement that follows. Of course from a biz point of view u must pay out according to ur revenue. If ur living on a 12000 dollar a year income, I don't think it wise to buy a new 40k car. On the otherhand...if u r a fan of the dedication, hardworking, and struggles of mma...then I think u would wish only the best for a fighters health and paycheck. Of course we don't get paid like A level boxers or NBA players, it because the revenue is not there. BUT it doesn't keep the topic of mma fighters being underpaid off the board does it. Try to keep up with this last part, it's really a man that understands what it takes to compete in mma, I appreciate and know the work that goes into and 8 week camp and years of training, so I hope that one day all mma athletes will earn an income closer tothat of other professional athletes. That is all. Ur turn.

Maybe they like their female fighters to look like (and have the same general body chemistry) as women?

She better get some plastic surgery done. Women's MMA isnt about fighting. Its about being eyes candy for all the depraved losers who watch it

When you are dealing with money it is always from a business point of view. You don't seem to be very smart, instead of bitching at her org for not paying her enough, why don't you set up some Cyborg fund and raise money for her? It isn't Strikeforce's obligation to pay her more than she is worth.

And cyborg is the best woman in ALL of MMA. Consistency.
