Big Foot Silva: Werdum could have knocked Overeem out

source: FightersOnly

Fighters Only: What impressed you the most in the Dutchman’s game?

Antonio Bigfoot: I was impressed by nothing in this bout. But we know that Overeem is better than what we saw in that fight. He’s a legend on the feet.

FO: Everybody expected him to be superior standing but Werdum surprised us with some good moments. What did you make of his striking?

Look… in this fight he didn’t develop his stand-up game. In some moments, if Werdum had pressured him more, I believe he could have knocked Overeem out but unfortunately Fabricio injured his knee in the second round and when we have to fight hurt it is horrible.

butt flopping is worse for knees than constant high-guard

I think anyone watching the fight could tell that Werdum's leg was injured. Even my girlfriend remarked on it.

coner won with a broken arm. KJ finished the fight with a tennis ball on his forehead. Werdum has always been mediocre.

Terrible fight that made both of them look like shit, hopefully the Silva fight will give us a better look at where Reem is at these days.

I just watched the fight again, and while Werdum touched Overeem plenty, it's hard to say if he ever came close to truly hurting Overeem. It's one of those situations where everything looks more impressive in the heat of the moment, and a lot less so when rewatching it a day or so later. For sure there are some heavyweights still in the tournament who would have KO'ed Overeem had they connected as many times as Werdum.

It certainly appeared that Werdum could have finish Overeem on  a couple of occassions in the standup, unfortunately everytime he had him injured it backed off from striking and shot for a single leg.

You can see it in the fight where werdum injures his knee... it was during a butt flop. Immediately after that his movement completely changes. (getting up slower, trying to hide a limp, etc...)

I don't thhink so.erdum is not enough good on his feet. I like Werdum but he cvan't knock out Overeem. Btw,I'm surprised Werdum and Overeem were not in shape for this fight ! Fighters should stop to take too much products and should train more to be more performant !

Most fighters fight injured, that's just how it is when you train constantly and spar with other guys. It's like football and any other sport, who's healthy by mid season or at the end of the year? You got guys playing hurt, guys fight hurt all the time, some choose to disclose the injury and some make no excuses.
