Marloes Coenen cut by Strikeforce, Golden Glory responds

I am very dissapointed to let you know that @MarloesCoenen @JohnEinemo and ValentijnOvereem have been cut from @Strikeforce @ufc.....

Read entire twitter... (Martijn De Jong, MMA trainer for Team Golden Glory)

De Jong expanded on his remarks in an interview with MMAjunkie. He was asked directly if he thought the cuts were due to recent strife between Alistair Overeem and Zuffa.

"You tell me. I have no idea, but it doesn't look good. Of course, for us, it's really bad. I'm very disappointed. What can I say?"

"This is a big blow for us," de Jong today told ( "I feel it's kind of unfair to the fighters. They train hard. They put on exciting performances."

"Of course, they can cut them because they lost, but do you cut Alistair Overeem, who was very eager to fight in the (Strikeforce heavyweight) grand prix, and who got major injuries? Einemo just received a 'Fight of the Night' bonus in his last UFC appearance. Coenen ... two times been the Strikeforce champion. And before Miesha beat her, I think they were even or Marloes."

"The only thing I can say is I feel disappointed for the fighters, and now we have to go back and see what we're going to do (and) where we're going to go. For me, I hope the management can still work something out with Zuffa.

"I think Alistair needs to fight the best fighters in the world, and I think right now there's only two people ranked above him: Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. Alistair only wants to be the best. It's a pity."

"For me, it doesn't make sense. I was just thinking, 'Is this the future of MMA?'"

Alistair Overeem voiced his support, also via twitter. "Doesnt feel right that champ @MarloesCoenen, fight of the night fighter @JohnEinemo and my brother @ValyOvereem are cut from Zuffa."

There are two obvious reasons for cutting former champion Marloes Coenen after a two-win streak followed by a single loss. One possibility is that the cut does not bode well for the future of women's MMA, and that this is the beginning of wrapping up women's MMA for Zuffa. Given the camp of the other fighters released, the more likely explanation is the cuts stem from Zuffa dissatisfaction with negotiating by Team Golden Glory.

I just say that. My question is this: Dana mentioned in his interview with Helwani that he had worked out a deal with a fighter(forget the name, but he's fighting on this UFC card) from Golden Glory, but the UFC was going to pay the fighter direct...when Golden Glory got to the states they started bitching, according to Dana. Is it possible that the UFC had worked out a deal with Coenen as well? Or told Golden Glory, we're paying your fighters directly, if you don't like that, you can fuck off, and they did?

Yeah... I was leading up to that. A lot of people seem to be buying into the rumors pretty hard, when no one outside of Zuffa and GG really know what happened. That's the first solid proof of anything I've seen.

Marloes Coenen posted a picture on her twitter account, her check from Forza LLC was made payable to her.  She basically called Dana White out.  Of course nobody in the media will bring this up to him.

So Zuffa were paying all the Golden Glory fighters via their management, and that was why they had to be fired? If they'd been paid directly they would have kept them on?

Wait one moment there. What does plumbing have to do with How dare you use a business analogy to try to explain a business decision. What do you think this is, reality. Come on!For all you FTC, Monopoly, Zuffa is the devil people......MIKE TYSON. It really work out well for him having a promoter for his management, and controlling his training. It is well documented how Don King always had Mikes best interest at heart.

I don't understand either. I like Amir. He ain't Anderson Silva but I've always found his fights entertaining.

Fight of the YEAR? There is no mixed message here. He lost a fight. His management played hardball and it led to the release of their fighters. Here is something we don't know. It is very possible part of the leverage GG used to get more money was JOE, MC and VO. They could have very well said they would pull their stable from up coming cards since outside of JOE don't have exclusive contracts. In other words, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WENT ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. We only know the repercussions of what went on.But I guess talking about the fights, techniques, future cards, what fighters did wrong/right in a fight. Asking fighters questions about their training, injuries or daily lives aren't important topics anymore. We need to spend most of our time talking about the promotional orgs, who run them, managers and shit that we will never know all the details on. Just a bunch of gossiping whinny bull shit. For a sport still banned in some places, the fans are turning into people who you would think watch professional knitting (if there is such a thing). It's getting pathetic.
