Mendes hand 'will be fine in a few weeks'

Despite bad swelling and his inability to close his fist following Saturday's fight at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center, former No. 1 contender Chad Mendes should be good to go rather shortly.

"[Nothing] is broken, but I do have torn/sprained ligaments in my hand [and] ankle," Mendes tweeted. "Still great news [though]! Should be fine in a few weeks!"

As MMAjunkie.com reported after UFC 133, UFC president Dana White wasn't immediately sure what would be next for Mendes, who moved to 11-0 (2-0 in the UFC) after his Spike TV-televised victory. Featherweight champion Jose Aldo now meets Kenny Florian at UFC 136, and though it's not clear if Mendes gets the winner of that October fight, White wanted to curb the criticism over the fighter's lopsided but expected victory.

"It's tough when you're in that position and people are saying 'he should be next,' and you don't go in there and finish," White said. "It's tough. There's no doubt [Mendes] won the fight. I say this all the time. It's like if Tiger Woods goes out there and wins but doesn't crush everyone, and they're like, 'Ehhh, is he the best in the world?' Well, he still won."

People are afraid the most dominant 145 will wrestle fuck the division. Well guess what wrestling works. If you can stop it you suck there's a whole in your game if he can take you down at will and you can't sub him.
