Where are you getting the 50% figure from?

Slepy is right IMO, fighters walk out the door with 50% going to taxes and management. We all deal with the taxes part, but 50% is a frightening amount to take out of a paycheck that arrives every 3 to 4 months. I agree that some fighters can make a better than average living, but the numbers are not as great as they first appear. The % of MMA fighters that are making lots of money is very low. Really have to love what you do....

Not at all. Cerrone could fight and lose three times a year and he would still be getting a higher than average yearly salary. And that's not taking into account any bonuses or endorsements from sponsors.Just because the career of a fighter is shorter than a typical full time worker doesnt mean they cant be smart about their money, and leverage themselves into security for the future (eg opening gyms, doing seminars, coaching etc).

Fighters are getting chump change for the amount of hours they work and what they are risking. Please don't forget they get taxed, pay a portion to management and training then get the crumbs that are left over. Any fighter that does MMA really does it for the love of the sport because in the end you are better working a 9 to 5.

UFC salaries steadily rising. Most newcomers are getting 6000 + 6000.I think it was 3000 when Zuffa got UFC.
