Melendez expected to defend Strikeforce title against Masvidal

An expected lightweight title bout between Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez (19-2 MMA, 9-1 SF) and Jorge Masvidal (22-6 MMA, 4-0 SF) has been targeted for Dec. 17.

Sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com of the date, though a city and venue has yet to be confirmed.

Melendez makes the third defense of his Strikeforce title while Masvidal get his shot after impressive back-to-back victories.

Melendez with ease.Masvidal lacks the killer instict and the instict to push forward. He had KJ hurt the entire time but was backing away and not pushing the pace.Melendez is just a fucking beast and will rip him apart

Melendez is going to brutalize him. He might have a brawling style but his wrestleboxing is out of this world. He controls fights and will control Masvidal.

Awesome matchup, both guys are killers. Melendez is more of a brawler, actually similiar to Henderson as a matter of fact - caring to fight from a low stance and embracing throwing the overhand right (with some success). Once someone's hurt he goes to finish - ex. Kawajiri. None the less, the guy is exciting as hell and always comes to bring it. Masvidal on the other hand is a technician. One of the best technical strikers at 155, I mean the beating he put on KJ Noons was fucking beatiful...not to mention Miami Hustle is a bad ass show. Anyway, I hope they put on a good fight for the fans - which I'm sure they will.
