The presence of Spike TV executives at Saturday night’s Bellator Fighting Championships event in Connecticut stoked speculation that the tournament-based promotion could land on the MMA-friendly cable network after the UFC leaves Spike next year for Fox.

Spike TV senior vice president of sports and specials Brian Diamond attended the Bellator event, and spent time in the production truck and at cageside. Diamond declined a Sherdog.com request for comment, saying he was “working.”

Bellator does it right. From the start Viacom always said they LOVED Bellator.

the deal for bellator was spike's to begin with. mtv2 took it to hone it, while spike finished out their deal with the UFC. bellator came over to mtv2 in 2010, that was also the year that spike signed their last deal with the UFC... for 1 year only.Spike knew all along that they couldn't hold onto the UFC, that's why they had mtv2 launch bellator and that's also why they've been producing their promos spots and handleing the live delivery of the fights... to shape the look and feel of bellator for when it came over to spike.I don't see how Viacom, as a media conglomerate, would not want mma on spike tv, their 12 - 36 male demo destination, that doesn't make sense. Especially when they're already invested in it on mtv2.What I can tell you for sure is that Season 5 will be the last season on mtv2, and in 2012 Spike will host bellator. Mark.My.Text.

My impression is that season 5 will be live and in HD on Epix.

spike wants bellator, viacom doesnt. Viacom either has different plans for spike or it's a negotiating ploy to get a stake in bellator on the cheap.

If Strikeforce is going to become a feeder league of sorts to the UFC, I think it would be cool if Belator eventually became the tournament format for the UFC. All early UFC's were tournament format so it isn't unthinkable to have the UFC put on Tournaments. Belator could be that promotion in the future.
