DFW: It's almost time for Silva vs. GSP

by Damon Martin | source: mmaweekly.com

All jokes aside, White understands that with Silva’s current winning streak and the status of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, it’s hard to ignore that super fight from finally coming to fruition.

“I think there’s a couple of other fights out there for him at 85, and it’s clear No. 1 that fans want to see this fight, and Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre are both getting into a position here pretty soon, they both only want really big fights, but they’re getting into a position here where that fight’s going to make sense,” White stated.

The challenges at 185lbs may include a rematch with Chael Sonnen, provided the Team Quest fighter can get past Brian Stann at UFC 136 in October. Another potential bout could be a rematch against Dan Henderson in the UFC, but it’s unknown at this time if Strikeforce’s current light heavyweight champion would opt to drop back down to middleweight for that fight.

If you rewatch the UFC 154 - GSP vs. Condit , its so fucking stupid how they show Anderson watching the fight the entire time, like they are going to make that fight.  Dana White does NOT make dream fights.  He only makes fights that are similar to boxing, where titles and contenders are the be all and end all.  Its so stupid how watered down the UFC made the great sport of MMA.  Pride would have made that fight asap and not dick around for years.  The stupid teasing of Dana saying "its about time for anderson-gsp" , everyone knew that fight will not happen UNLESS they are both are the end of their careers.  The UFC is not an organization dedicated to its fans.  Its an organization designed to stay on top of a pile of cash.

Lol... yet another fight failed to be delivered by the UFC. If this ever does happen, it will be years from now when both are even more shot, beat up and old. That's the only way the UFC ever seems to get big fights done anymore.

Would be a great way to send them both off into the sunset as I said when Anderson first got hurt. Bring them in for a stacked card of #1 contender fights so they can still be the main event, induct them both into the Hall of Fame the week before the event, make a big giant woopidy doo about everything. GSP lays on Anderson for 5 rounds, or Anderson kicks GSP in the head and makes him take a nap, and we all walk away happy.

Sure, it would've been better 2-3 years ago. I would pay to see this regardless.

This fight should have happened in 2011.

Since this was bumped; thoughts on a GSP v Anderson catch weight super-fight say, 1-2 years from now after both spend some time out?
