Soares details split with JDS

by Damon Martin | source:

“We’re his managers; we’re not his Dad. I still to this day don’t know really why we’re not working with him anymore. He never really gave us any reasons. Money and fame changes people, and sometimes that happens. He’s got his reasons,” Soares told MMAWeekly Radio.

“I almost think that’s a better question for you sometime to ask him, because I still really don’t know what happened other than we’re not representing him any more.”

“I don’t think we could have done a better job with Junior Dos Santos than what was done. Nobody knew who he was two-and-a-half years ago, we pretty much got him in the UFC. Because at first the UFC didn’t want to sign him because he signed with the UFC through another guy, so he had a deal to fight in the UFC and then he went and fought in Brazil and lost. The UFC was really bummed out and basically said ‘no, we’re not going to sign this guy. He screwed us. He signed with us then went to another event and lost,’” Soares explained.

“So we got him back a win and we convinced them let’s get this kid back in. He made a mistake, he was young, he really didn’t understand the whole deal.”

He needs sponsors and someone to negotiate the deals. Unless the fighter wants to spend a lot of time away from training figuring out what they are worth and what everyone else is making they need someone with some business savy to do it for them. You think AS or GSP just fall into sponsorships with the likes of Nike, Burger King, Under Armour, and Gatorade? This is big business and you need someone who has 40 hours a week to work on this stuff.

Have I mentioned that Ed Soares appears to be a world class scum bag?

Heres my complete bullshit .02.I believe a manager is just more useful outside of the UFC. It seems younger fighters have problems getting fights, and keeping them, there opponents dont show up, or theyre fighting in weight classes that arnt there own. sorting through what small time sponsors to be picked up by and trying to get the bigger ones as well. this is what you would pay a manager to take care of.Once in the UFC, they pick your fights and set them up. If your opponent cant fight, you are compensated in some way usually, if not with another fight. The UFC controls who can and cannot sponsor a fighter as well as just being in the UFC will get you the best exposure for bigger sponsor pay days.I guess he translates too...well, Junior now speaks English. Now, after that, what does Soare's do besides take a nice chunk of JDS' income?

After the TUF season, it should be obvious to anyone the JDS has some mental issues.

Pretty misleading thread title. "Detailing the split" should include more than Soares saying I don't know, ask Junior.

So, JDS signed with the UFC at some point before November in 2007 and Soares got him back in October of 2008? Wow, no better representation than that! Miracle achieved!

Maybe the simply explanation is that JDS came to the realization, like many of us, that Ed Soares is a scum bag.
