GSP: Condit is way more dangerous opponent than Nick Diaz

by John Morgan | source: mmajunkie.com

Count UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre among those shocked by Nick Diaz's press conference no-shows.

"I don't understand how someone can not show up to an opportunity like this. I just can't believe it. It's amazing. I don't know what to say. It's crazy."

"I was happy to fight Nick Diaz because Nick Diaz has been saying a lot of things about me. This was a fight that everybody wanted to see because he was champion of his organization and I was champion of the UFC. It was some sort of, not unification, but kind of.

"But I do believe that Carlos Condit is more dangerous than Nick Diaz. I do believe that if Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit would fight, I would put my money on Carlos Condit. For me, it's even a bigger challenge."

"To tell you the truth, in the beginning, when I went to Toronto and he didn't make it, I thought something – I didn't judge him right away. I thought something happened to him.

"I don't know the guy. I don't know what's going on in his life. I thought maybe something bad happened, so I thought, '[S---].' I don't wish that he has a bad life, so I was like, 'I hope everything is OK.' Then I talked to some people, and I heard what really happened."

"I was mad that he did not show up in Toronto, but once again, I didn't know why he didn't show up, so I thought maybe something happened and he was going to show up. I don't care about what he's doing. I care about myself. I signed the contract. I said I was going to do my job, so I'm going to do my job 100 percent.

"I'm a man of my word, and I'm a man off commitment. This is my life. This is the world title. When I'm business, I'm business. I show up."

"I've watched a couple of his fights, and it seems to me he has a bigger variety of attack standing up. His ground is very good, just as good as Nick Diaz, and standing up is more dangerous. I'm going to have to be worried about a lot more things – not only the hands.

"Nick Diaz is mostly a boxer, but Carlos Condit, he's got a bigger range and more variety of attack. He can hit me with knees, elbows and everything, and he hits harder than Nick Diaz. For me, it's a fight that I actually believe is way more dangerous. I think his pedigree as a martial artist is better than Nick Diaz. I think he's a better fighter than Nick Diaz and way more dangerous."

"It's crazy. "It's the opportunity to get out of the shadows and make a living. I just don't understand. By doing so, you would have a better lifestyle, a better well-being. His life would have changed completely.

"If you don't want to do it for yourself, do it for your family. Do it for your kids. ... It's a little bit selfish, thinking like that. I don't know. It doesn't make sense."

No, he's not. That's the point...Despite having black belt level abilities, and people always saying he's a black belt...He doesn't actually have a belt.

What gym are you out of where you have DI wrestling coaches and former natioanl team members training there ?

You obviously don't grapple and this is completely incorrect. Wrestling is a piece of the puzzle, and in MMA, it is a huge advantage to be able to take your opponent down at will and avoid being taken down. But wrestlers do not "out grapple guys belts ahead of them". I have wrestling coaches of division 1 schools, and former members of the US national wrestling team at my gym who regularly get out grappled by members of the same belt ranking. They have exceptional top control, but sweep them and they are just like anyone else operating off of their back. There are too many examples of high level wrestlers getting tapped out by high level grapplers in MMA (Sonnen Maia) for me to list.

Watch GSP vs Hardy, squint your eyes until Hardy starts to kinda look like Condit, that is what the fight will look like. I am not even remotely excited for this BS.

Almost any wrestler who is legit belted will out grapple guys belts ahead of them. Nick Diaz isnt a jacare or a Roger Gracie so he probably isn't that far from condit. Wrestling is key to positional dominance. Positional dominance with years of sub training is better than a decade of bjj. Condit probably kos Diaz on the feet. And Diaz isn't taking him down... Gsp can out wrestle strike and grapple both opponents so it didn't matterzz. Gsp is king for a Reason
