BJ Penn interview footage, raw and uncut

by Chris Palmquist | source: The Undeground

Early this week, BJ Penn said that his fight with Nick Diaz would not be personal, but just business. The UFC star went as far as to claim that the UFC production staff had also forced him to make statements regarding the Strikeforce champion that he necessarily didn't want to say:

they forced me to say, at the end of the whole thing, they forced me to say... 'You gotta say Nick Diaz's name now, you gotta say his name.' And I was like, 'What?' They were like, 'Say you're going to beat Nick Diaz. Say you're going to beat Nick Diaz.' And I said, 'I'm going to beat Nick Diaz.'

When asked to comment on BJ's accusation, Dana White was adamant that the story was not true. To back up his point, the UFC President supplied the raw and uncut footage of the interview directly to MixedMartialArts.com:

i was always under the impression that that's how these interviews are. i remember a fighter saying they can be as long as 3 or 4 hours long. they try to catch you off guard and get things out of you and push you.what i hate is that it looks like dana released a edited video trying to cover this up but penns video seems to mostly support penns account.i don't know maybe this is all planned in some way to hype the fight but that would be pretty lame...

Yeah, maybe this is how they want to hype the fight too. Traffic for site and hyping the fight. Win win for Bj.

Yep. It's an obvious #1 contender fight and I've been saying forever now that main events & #1 contender fights should all be 5 rounds.

Oh, just saw the other thread by BJPenn.com's editor in chief. This is just a cheap attempt to drive viral traffic to his site. Kinda pathetic really.

If people think that is "putting words in BJs mouth" then they haven't a clue how anything in the media works. That was just a producer making sure they got out of there with the content they needed. I don't see what BJ's problem is, this isn't his first rodeo.

Wow, such pointless drama. The way Penn and Diaz are acting I bet this fight doesn't happen.

Bj did not miss speak in this situation. He heavily exaggerated the whole thing. And this has been proved by the videos posted in this thread. While there could have been more that these videos don't show but until BJ himself, not someone speaking on his behalf says when he was pressured and repeatedly told to say nick Diaz or atleast has a video that more resembles what he said happened, we can only go by what the videos show. And they don't show what Bj said happened. What the videos show is interviewers asking Bj to hype the fight and him willfully obliging. Nothing forced by zuffa. They say what they want to the questions asked. Are the press forcing fighters to say certain things when questions are asked? How is this any different? Because its "zuffa" asking the questions? Sure they are questions designed to promote a fight, that's kind of the point of a show designed to promote a fight. Should they have asked how his mom is doing? Or should they ask what he plans to do in the fight and if he plans on winning the fight. And its not like they had to reshoot the whole thing. They just needed to replace any specific questions that were directly related to the Condit fight. Which would include questions about nick Diaz. He answered them as he saw fit.

One more time for all the folks who jump to the last page.......^^^^^^^^^^ This is the reality of the situation. BJ misspoke on the EXACT WORDS, but the point he was trying to make was validated in his video. Zuffa does NOT "let the fighters say/act how they want", Zuffa DOES pressure fighters to create more drama and trash talk then they want to.
