Koch wins lackluster decision over Brookins

Brookins' strategy was sound, repeatedly pushing Koch into the fence and trying to wear him out with takedown attempts but he could not take Koch down.

Instead, Koch spent a majority of the fight with his back against the cage, fending off Brookins' attempts. When the fight was in the stand-up realm, Koch was clearly the more technical and sound striker. He repeatedly found a home for his left leg kick and his 1-2 punching combinations.

In the end, the judges sided with Koch with unanimous decision victory, winning via scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

Those were good judges. Love it if that's a new trend nationally, but I doubt it. More fights in New Orleans at least!

Amen. Hopefully the judges are starting to realize some fighters are trying to alienate the rules to score points instead of fight and are deciding to start scoring fights more as they should be. That's probably wishful thinking though. lol

In a street fight if the guy is busy devoting his hands to holding onto you you can ram your hands in his eyes and he'll have to let go or go blind. In a street fight a guy cant drop level and hang out there trying to get a takedown, knowing you're not allowed to hit him in the back of the head, because you can elbow the back of his skull and spine and he'll go unconscious. The whole dynamic of the hugging strategy doesn't work as well once those protections are removed. Not saying we should remove those protections, but lets recognize they make some things artificial and not count things that really dont matter in the grand scheme of a fight. Holding in a fight is like a 1st down in football. Is it useful? Sure. Should it score points? Nope.

Well, in a street fight Koch would probably knee Brookins in the balls or something in that situation, so I don't really follow that argument.

Everyone keeps talking about "damage" but koch was the only one with any visible damage at the end his eye was swollen brookins was clean, if in a street fight a guy can tie you up I dont care how good you can punch or kick it's not gonna do a thing

Probably the most annoying part was Rogan's "I guess they gave it to Koch for _____" as if there was any way Brookins won that fight.I don't like to crap on pros trying hard but come on. He really didn't do much except fail TD's.

I guess it could be argued that Brookins was more active/offensive since he was the one pushing Koch to the fence for most of the fight. I don't know why Rogan had such a hardon for Brookins either though.

I also couldnt figure out what fight rogan was watching because i very easily had koch winning. He stuffed brookins entire gameplan and in turn easily controlled the standup while landing way better shots.
